I inspire me post #8

Yay.. It's "I inspire me" blog post day... and you know how I love these!

You have to check out today's post , and see what the girls came up with for their inspiration projects this week. A*M*A*Z*I*N*G is all I'm going to say!!!

and... the Giveaway is a

ScrapMuse.com September Kit and the ... Guest Feature: Stephanie Howell

*** Here's the project I did for this weeks inspiration , which theme was

Linens/Bedding/Pillows

I took my inspiration from these pillow that I have on the bed in the back room. I love the machine stitched quilted lookof them. Here's a close up.

I love the way you see so much depth and distinction in them when the light shines on them.

So... I made the cover for my book using 81/2 x 11 sheets of felt, sandwiched between to pieces of paper.. and then machine stitched .. giving it a quilted look. I then folded it in half and began to assemble the pages.
The flower below is a standard silk flower, I just cut and added some paper peddles( from vintage sheet music) to it and did some inking.

The pages inside are a combination of papers, and fabric.

The photo on this page is of my Great grandparents on my moms side. My Grandpa Bendigs parents. ( the two people on the far right). Not sure who it is they are with.
As I was uploading these photos I noticed I will have to make a correction. This is my moms side of the family.. so the "D" needs to be a "B".. lol

You can click on these pages to see them bigger if you wish.

My mom and dad.

I made such good use of the Crafty Secrets Heartwarming Vintage Cotton Scraps in this book. They were just perfect for what I wanted.

The image of the little birds and the cherries is one of the Images in the New Image and Journal books from Crafty Secrets.

My mom as a young girl. I used a vintage handy for the background on this one, along with some of my favorite vintage lace.

My Grandma and Grandpa Stoltenberg .. in the younger days and then much later on.

He was so tall , and her.. so short. Kind of funny her name was Minnie.

On the page below.. on the left page is my dad and my Grandpa Dunn (his dad), and on the

right page, my mom and my Aunt Viv when they were little.

Every have one of those projects they started out simple and they it just takes over, and you seem to just get lost in it??? Well, this was it for me. I fiddled with this for hours and hours..but maybe it's because I LOVE old family photos and think about that time , and what their lives where like then, as I'm working on the project. This book was just such a total creative outlet for me. I think I just really need to take time to dilly dally with a project.. use what product "I" wanted, mix and match my favorite little things, ink sew and carry on.. with no deadlines!

It was so liberating. A labor of love. A book just for me , for no reason. I don't care of it ever gets published.. or seen in any online gallery. .. it just doesn't matter.. and that feels good.

It's just a book I made filled with the people I love... and I so enjoyed the process.

Oh Vic! I have to say this is one of my favorite posts of yours! Love the book . . . so creative with the music leaves in the silk flower. Only you would think of such a perfect thing to do on a 'vintage' album. Like you, I really adore those photos of our family, from long ago. I need to get back to Dad's so I can scan them into the computer to share- - -I keep putting that off. :(
Thank you so much for the 'beauty' relief!
Hugs,
Liv

Vicki!! This is absolutely beautiful!! I love it and the story behind the photos. Is Aunt Viv the one holding the little kitty (that could be me)!! How did you make your flower on the front? It has sheet music in it, so did you take apart a flower and put it back together with different layers? Everything goes together perfectly...the Crafty Secrets images and your papers and vintage little treasures. One of your pages looks like a hankie was used...am I correct? It's beauticul!!!

This photo album is incredible. I LOVE vintage photos and the way you have them displayed makes them so much more precious. The album cries out to be touched too though; the beautiful lace trim, and the mother of pearl clip, so many different textures you used. It is a true treasure.

Thanks so much for sharing your art and family with us! I bet if I saw one of your boys on the street I would be compelled to give them a hug and suggest they spend more time with their momma! LOL!
