Give away reminder & My creative space

Reminder.. post HERE if you would like to be put in on the giveaway of this Clearly Cards book. I'll be drawing a winner on Friday the 16th.( next Friday)

****************************************************

I have to tell you .. when I'm working ... I'm messy! Not crazy messy.. I just tend to toss things into the bins, and containers.. instead of neatly putting them away the way they should be. After a while .. I just have to stop and put things away ..where they belong. It always feels so much better , after I do that ... it make me WANT to create. Plus the fact that I usually find things, I had forgotten about .. so I pull them out and us them. ha Since things were tidyed up, .. I'll share some pics.

I keep my most current mags on my work table ... ( so I remember to take time to look at them).. and for instant inspiration, if I need some. Then the previous month issues go in the rack. After that... passed on to my sis.. or who ever wants them. Some of my favebooks stay out in the rack all the time.

My room would certainly push some people right over the edge.. because there is alot "out". I'm a totally "visual" person... I need things out where I can see them. There's a number of reasons for that... again.. having things out in my sight...helps me remember I have it.. so I use it! Also.. because I find that lots of times the product itself is my inspiration. Not only do I have product out in view.. but just other pretties and junk treasure. I spend ALOT of time in here.. so I want to enjoy it ( but it also has to be functional). A happy medium.. .. is the goal. lol

Like I've said before .. my studio room is not big.. so I have to utilize the space..the best I can. But whether is a larger area or a small one..for me , organization is key...because I hate digging and searching for something for hours. ( and trust me .. if I know I have something , and have it in my mind I need it for a project.. I wont stop till I find it , and this can be very time consuming if I have no idea "where" it is. lol

Other than the plastic 12x12 containers and the cart in my closet I don't really invest in lots of "new" containers for storage for my room. I use jars, cigar boxes, wood and wire baskets, ect.. I find at flea markets, garage sales ect.. I also use alot of cake plates, layered plate stands ect.. that I had, that would just be taking up space in my lower kitchen cupboard anyway. You know.. that stuff, you only use now and then. We'll, I figure , if they are just hidden in a cupboard downstairs 3/4 of the time , I might as well be using them in the mean time. If I'm having company, or need them for something, I just go grab them .. wash them up and use them.
That tiered plate holder sitting on the hosier was the first thing I started using that way.. because it wouldn't even fit under my cupboards. Now it holds my Cateye inks.
If I need it , I still have it to use.

(below), I just painted this old ugly wood spice rack I found at a yard sale , and use it for holding "Glimmer Mist" bottles. It works perfect.
The blue dresser was $15 at the old junk store we used to have in town. ( I miss that place!)
The bottom draw holds chipboard pieces, the middle , ribbon spool and the top.. Glitters, beads.. ect.

(below)
That crazy bunch of supplies below.. looks over whelming I know.. but really, I do know where everything is . lol
I got the great idea of the rolling cart from Paula. It's from Sams club. It's great because I can roll it right over to my work table..then push it back out of the way when I'm finished.

The blue, green and yellow bins where from the $ store.
The jars that are hanging under the shelf.. are jars that Fancy Pants flower came in.. I just had Dan screw the lids into the bottom of shelf. They hold little things like brads, charms, ect..
I bought those paper racks from a store that was going out of business.

The 12x12 containers I get when they are 50% off at Micheal's or Hobby Lobby. They hold, "to submit", submitted, and pubbed layouts, (it's a great way to keep those in order),
alpha stamps. letter stickers.. you name it. I love these containers. They are what I use for classes also.

Wonder what I'm always picking up cheese and cigar boxes for? lol Now you know. I just print out a little label to put on them , so I know what's in them.

I wish this photo would have turned out better sorry. but to the far left is a metal cabinet I picked up cheap and on the floor, and old drawer, with two shelves built in it.

This is a a picture of the drawer when it was hanging on the wall. I moved it now because I had to move it to make room for the new bigger organizer on the wall.

Sometimes it's just a matter of the most simple things working best. This old pop crate holds acrylic paints. I've kept mine in this for years.. it works great. I just put them in the crate with the bottoms out , that way I can see the colors easier.

I'd love to see your orgainizing ideas. I think it's fun to share. What one person doesnt think of , another does. Share a link , if you want to.
Hope everyone has a super day!

Your organization looks great! I have absolutely no organization and it drives me nuts. I'm trying to convince DH that the TV cabinet should be moved to another room so I can move more *stuff* into my current space. Right now I have a real mess but when I decide to clean it up, I find all kinds of things I forgot I had and that's fun!

Boy oh boy you have a great space and set up! I'm like you - I like to have stuff out where I can see it, and if I know I've got something I keep digging until the wee hours of the morning when I find it...lol
Thanks for sharing great and unique organization ideas!

I'm glad I'm not the only one that saves cheese and cigar boxes! You make me feel better! LOL I keep all of my punches in an old 3 drawer wooden tool chest that belonged to my father. Love the versatility of old stuff!!

My craftroom is just missing closet shelves (and a ceiling but who needs a suspended ceiling?) until it can be used. I am looking forward to moving in and starting to organize my stuff. What a mess my craft stuff is in after over 9 months of disarray! Should I somehow use my dh's grandmother's antique dresser with a mirror? I really don't want to but it needs a home somewhere....

your scrappy room is so fun to be in!!! I don't have even 1/2 of what you own. My stash is extremely small - so my room looks VERY big! LOL

Your organization is so cool! I love the idea of the drawer on the wall and the pop crate - I have bunches of them and the way the paint is displayed is great! Thanks for sharing!! (If I buy you a plane ticket will you come over and do mine?) I'll have to post pics so you know how much help I REALLY need - or maybe not!!! (he,he)

Vicki - Thank you for sharing your creating room! I love it! I am always bringing home "junque" from yard sales/antique stores and my husband asks what am I going to do with that? Well, now I know what I can do with it! How cozy it looks and I love the old kitchen cupboard as a desk.

Oh, your crafting room is wonderful! It’s beautiful and so much more organized.
You are envied. You have a old cupboard and an old dresser and beautiful old decorations! They have all history, the plastic-rolling containers are so sterile!

I take to recycling cigar boxes, shoe boxes and bottles for the organisation!

In a few months I get own craft room only for myself. You have so fantastic ideas. I would like to take a few ideas from your craft room.

Vicki, no wonder what you create is so beautiful. You have made yourself a space that is perfect for YOU.... what a pleasure it must be to create there.

I especially liked the cake plate idea (ie: using instead of storing them-- SMART!!)

TY so much for sharing your space with us: I just LOVED seeing it! Happy Sunday!

Please move in with me for just one month, that's all, just one month. In that time, you will have free reign on my world, to rearrange and organize and clear out and clean up and WHATEVER! aI have learned some things about me, one of which is that I can't creat when I have too much "stuff" out. I am also learning that I need to reorganize to better display stuff as I am, like you, visual. You have some interesting items, the white bird stand with create is beautiful and there is what looks like a tree with weeping branches on the blue dresser? You just make everything look so nice.

You're a girl after my own heart! It pleases me to see that someone has similar tastes, because I store everything pretty much the same way. Always repurposing items I like. TFS! I also have to be able to SEE everything:) LOL.

Your creative space looks so beautiful and organized. It's very shabby chic - a little vintage, retro, classic & cozy - everything I love! I would be totally inspired in there!

Oh, everything just looks so wonderful and organized. I am completely moved in to my new studio but it doesn't feel at all like home. Maybe after Dennis the light genius comes and hangs my little chandelier. I need some of your organizing in my mess. My room is small too and with out light I feel as though I am in a cave. Hope to see you at CHA. Kara
