and the winners are.....

I cant even begin to tell how much this past few days has just been like a big huge 3 day HUG!! lol Seriously... The time I got to spend with my mom , my sister, niece..and aunts and uncles....chatting and reminiscing about the past during our trip to South Dakota was SO great! Going there, it just so special because we have so many great memories of family times there. This was another great "memory maker". If that wasn't enough to make my heart happy... YOU guys topped it off. Seeing my amazing friends post their creations here on my blog .. and to see how you all welcomed them.. was just the cherry on top of it all. I swear my blog readers (that's you!) are the BEST! THANKYOU for making my guest bloggers (and friends), feel SO welcome!! Some of you who have been coming here for a long time.. I've gotten to really "know" and you feel like my "blog family". Most of us have never even met in person..but still , there is a great friendship... and a connection that is so awesome! It was just so cool to have Nat, Cat and Paula share their ART here and have all of you welcome them like you did and enjoy their art.. well, it was just amazing!

My thoughts from the very beginning, when I started talking about having "Guest Bloggers" was to share different kinds of ART. To help us not close our minds.. and only focus on what we do or what we know... creativly. To remember ART comes in many forms... and although it may not be what "we" do, or know..but it can still inspire us in so many ways, if we open our minds to it. Whether, its' photography, pottery, painting, music, dance.. whatever.. it's all "creativity" at work right? Each persons creative mind works differently.
Anyway... down the road we'll have more guest bloggers from time to time, when I'm out of town.... so there is more fun to come. They'll be one more this month , on the 31st, and then a few more when I'm got next month teaching at Scrapfest.
I just cant find the words for the last few days... but that it felt like the biggest best group hug ever!!

Thankyou so much to all of you for coming over and "playing hostess" for me while I was gone. You guys are the BEST!

Hey winners... will you please send your address to so that I can get these in the mail to you please.

Here are a few phot0s from our great time with family in South Dakota... I'll share more later....but remember tomorrow is "Crafty Secrets" Design Team challenge day again.. and I have video with step by steps planned, so please stop back okay?

This photo is one of me when I was little. lol My Aunt Donna had it. It was taken at my Grandma and Grandpas farm here in South Dakota.

My cousin Craig and I ( who are close to the same age), always had lots of fun playing here. He lived there, on a farm by Grandma and Grandpas.. so it probably wasn't nearly as for fun for him..but it was pretty good for me to go to the farm.
I have so many great memories of trips
to South Dakota to see family over the years. My parents were born there, lived there during their growing up years and eventually met and married there. Even had their first 5 children there. My brother Dan and I were born in Nebraska after they moved here.. My parents had made the move here , when my dad took a job with the rail road.

My parents met for the first time at a dance here.(below)

We drove through town and reminisced about things we remembered. It took a bit to get mom ..thinking back to so many years ago( about when her and dad met).. but when she did.. we all listened with our ears peeled. It was so fun and so interesting. I think she really got a kick out of it too. If I'm correct I think my parents were married in 1939.

It's a very small town. We drove past the house were grandma and grandpa lived after then moved into town from the farm when they retired. It looks very different. A little sad.. so I didn't even take a photo.. I want to remember it the way it was.

We followed main street out to the edge of town to the cemetery to put flowers on their graves. What a beautiful peaceful spot.
A few miles down the road, we made it to Aunt Vivs. ( my moms sister).
These photos were taken the next morning. Oh... yum, looks whats for breakfast..
Aunt Vivs homemade rolls.

Sitting at this table first thing in the morning , with my mom, my aunt, Jan and Neely was so totally perfect! So sweet
(fresh cantaloupe from Aunt Donna's garden)

Speaking of the garden. After breakfast we went to the farm. Neely and I spend some time out in the garden with Uncle Alvin ( moms brother). The always have a HUGE garden. Hard working people. I couldn't to that at "my" age.. let alone at theirs. They are something else. Here Uncle Al is showing Neely the potatoes.

We came home with Zucchini, butternut squash, tomatoes to can, onions, cantaloupe, cabbage, beets and cucumbers. mmmmm

We used to have a garden and I used to cann so much. Makes me kind of sad that I don't take time to do that anymore. It's so great to have.. especially in the middle of winter!

Another little bit down the road and visited the cemetery where my other grandparents and family are buried.

We had cake ( actually TWO) to celebrate my Aunt Donna birthday.

Below is my mom (far right) with her only brother and only sister, after we went out to lunch before leaving.

You know you are in a rural area when you drive to three different towns before you found one that had a restaurant and it was open. lol seriously each town only has ONE place to eat.. and two of them were closed. ( lunch on Saturday)

It's go great to know there are still places like this. Neely and I were talking to the lady at the tiny little grocery store on main street, and Neely asked here what those little receipts hanging by the register where. She said. .."oh those are charges". Oh.. can you image trying that at your store?? lol
And one time we had gotten a hotel room because there were more of us ..than beds at our relative. lol.. anyway I had called ahead for a hotel room. When we got there , there was a key on the desk , with a note saying they were on the tractor.. working out in the just let ourselves in and they would catch up with us when they got back in. lol (they left a cell phone number if we needed something).
Oh.. if times where different everywhere and everyone could be that trusting huh.
Oh.. I could go on and on about what a cool place this is and how great it was to be there this weekend again..but you get the idea. lol

Thanks for letting me share

and thanks for the group hug!

Hi! I just wrote on your fb wall wondering if I am the Denise you are looking for .. {fingers crsoosed}. Then realized I use a slightly different name here {no last name here} so that makes a difference. Anyway I love the garden shots! My grandparents always had big gardens like that and only stopped because of grandpas alzheimers and then they moved here to be with my mom. Oh your photos really touch my heartstrings tonight!! xo

OMG Vicki, thank you so much!!! I'm so honored and excited to be a winner!!! You are too sweet and I can't thank you enough!

Your stories are amazing and I love to read them! I'm intrigued by your cemetary out there, here ours have lots and lots of trees and flowers. Love the photo of you as a little girl, super cute then and super cute now : )!!.

The story about the hotel and the peeps being out on the tractor too funny, I can't even imagine it's like you have to show then 10 forms of ID here to get your room that was booked in advance (I'm exagerating(sp) a little)
Looks like you had a wonderful time that is so awesome! I spent Saturday with my niece's baby girl and it was so much fun to have a baby in the house again. She's 4mo old and just a doll : )
