Heidi Swapp File Folder album tutorial for The Little Blue House

Hi friends! Hope all is well in your world.  I've been really enjoying the goodies from The Little Blue House this month. ( well truthfully.. I do every month :)   They have such a great selection of things in their online store.   This Heidi Swapp Favorite Things Memory File was one of the things I received.  I adore Heidi, both as a designer and as a wonderful person, so I'm always excited to work with her product.
I decided to do something a little different with my file folder and make a little photo album out of it.  You can see in the photos below how I cut it and machine stitched it together.

Here is how it looks originally.

I cut it in half and then cut both those pieces in half again.   Leaving me with 4 pieces.
I added a couple extra pages using my Bo Bunny paper, just by cutting it to the same size.  Then I just stitched it all together with my sewing machine along the left size.  You will just not want to add to many pages or it will be too much for your machine to handle if you plan to stitch your binding.  IF you wanted to add many pages you could just punch holes and add metal rings.

These Kraft Polaroids from Jillibean are so fun for photos.

This is the fun part, just adding photos and dressing up the pages.

You'll probably be seeing plenty of photos of this couple over the next couple of months.  It's my nephew Ryan and his fiance Erin.  They will be Mr & Mrs soon. We are looking forward to the wedding in Colorado.

I have to give photo credit to my brother in law Keith for these amazing photos. Ryan is his son.  He took these photos when he and my sis Jan were out visiting the kids in November.

Super cute  little bow from Bella Blvd.

It was a fun way to put together a little photo album that wasn't chipboard for a change. I really enjoyed it.  It would be super easy to add little pockets for keepsakes ect also.

Hope you might feel inspired to to create one for yourself.

Thanks so much for coming by!
Hope your day is super!

Vicki

Bridal shower recap

Hi friends!  We'll the Bridal shower my sis and I put on for her new daughter in law to be turned out well this weekend.  Erin flew back from Denver to be here for the shower, and was excited to see family and friends.
We rented the same clubhouse that we used for Kate and for Neely's Bridal showers. It is a nice place in a central location that works well for everyone.
Erin has chosen a romantic theme for her and Ryan's wedding, so we tried to keep with that theme for the shower. Between my sis (Jan) and I, we always seem to have enough props for decorating, between her stuff and mine.

We used a lot of painted frames to display black and white engagement photos of different sizes.  We  added lace to all or parts of some of the frames.  We had apothecary jars with vintage buttons and tea lights in them, also in the mantle.

I used vintage sheet music and my AccuCut Pennant Flag Die P1317 to cut the banner pieces I put together and strung across the mantle.

I also used that same die to create this banner that I laid out in front of the card basket.

I made signs for the Bride to be, and the mother, and mother in law to be, to reserve their seats.

I used some of the Tim Holtz sheet music washi tape to cover the little tea night candles

My sis has some beautiful dishes.

We got the cakes at Sams Club, and I'm telling you , if you have never had their coconut cake  ... oh my!!  It is AMAZING!   Everyone said the  chocolate was yummy also. I love milk chocolate, but that is too much chocolate for me, so I didn't try that, but it was very pretty.

My sis collects vintage cake plates, so we always have such beautiful ones to choose from to use.  If you click on the photo above you might be able to see the wood pieces that are in the cakes. I found them at Micheal's. 99 cents I think. I hot glued them to dowels and painted them.  One has wedding bells and the other say's "Adore".

Jan and I made chicken salad for croissants.  They seems to go over well.

I found this recipe on Pinterest .   It's just basically cream cheese with (either blue cheese or shredded cheddar cheese) and finally chopped dried cranberries.   Rolled in chopped pecans. Just before serving you add the pretzel stick.  They were pretty good.

veggies

Different kinds of Hummus with crackers

fruits and cheeses

Kate and Diana helping with getting the food out :)    Kate had all the games planned and took charge of that. She's so good at that sort of thing. They were super fun games.   Little does she know , now that we know how good she is at it, it will be her job at every family shower from here on out. lol    Diana worked like a trooper keeping the food filled and helping with clean up!  She is a gem!

Below is a photo of the Bride to be , with her mom on the right and my sis .. her mother in law to be . .. on the right.

We are excited to welcome Erin into the family. She is a sweetheart.  It was great to get to meet her family and friends.

Another fun event my sis and I enjoyed putting on together.  She is just the best.

Well..... another bridal shower this weekend. My friend Julies daughters shower.
Then weddings ahead!!!

Love is in the air!

Thanks for stopping by and letting me share :)

"Thank You" card using the Bo Bunny Sweet Life Collection for The Little Blue house

Hello!
Sharing a card today that was done using Bo Bunny  "Sweet Life" Collection.   Aren't the colors so vibrant and beautiful?  It's a gorgeous collection.   And how can you go wrong with butterflies and  flowers :)  I also used a little strip of the Bella Blvd  "Clearly Cuts"  White Stripe in the background on the card.
I'm warming up to the popular trend of using GOLD again.  I wasn't sure I ever would.  I've been through the gold years.. then gold became less popular and silver ruled.  I've been living in the silver/pewter/stainless world for a while now, and was quite comfortable. Then I start seeing gold again. NOOOO!   It's okay now... I'm coming around, and actually liking it.  Not ready to let it consume my home decor ...but liking  on paper :)

I broke out my gold thread and have been machine stitching with that and embossed my "Thank You" stamp and the edges of my matted piece with Gold embossing powder.

Happy Earth Day! ( a day late)   I had this little doll here yesterday.   No grandchildren for me yet, but I do love spoiling the little ones that are close by :)  And they let me be Grandma Vicki all I want. Lucky me!  Sweet baby Lyla.

I was in Fremont today, getting groceries and things.  I drove past moms house. I don't know why I still call it moms house.  I guess It will always be home in my heart, but boy have things changed.  After mom passed away and we sold the house ( which I cant  believe has been three years now), the owner turned it into a  rental.   My parents moved there when I was in first grade and  always kept that house and that yard in immaculate shape.  My mom was  almost 90 and still was out messing in her flowers, pulling weeds, trimming  ect.  Everything was kept so nice. She had beautiful roses,  iris's and peonies.  Our parents took such pride in keeping things nice.  It's so sad to see it go down hill now.
I try not to go by often, but today, for some reason I did.  I miss her so much.  It seems like I should just be able to pull in the drive and go up to the door and she will be there.  Unbelievable to me that three years have passed without her. Things come up and I  still think " I need to call mom and tell her that".  A photo of her instantly puts a lump in my throat and makes my eyes teary.    I came home and was looking through my photo files for photos of the house and ran across this one of her and I.   I wish I could remember what we were talking about :)     But I have memories of lots of great chats with her.

Missing momma

Spring is defiantly here, and the ride home was beautiful.  I love turning off the hwy onto the gravel heading home and seeing that big tree starting to fill in.  It wont be long and they'll be turning the soil and  getting ready to plant crops.   Goodbye Winter!!!

This weekend I"m hosting a Bridal shower for my sister Jans , daughter in law to be.  It should be a lot of fun. I'll be back to share photos in my next post.

Thanks so much for coming by and for letting me share me , my art and my life.
Remember , I'm hosting a give a way.  All you have to do is click HERE and leave a comment.

Hugs!

A Birthday Card for a 90th Birthday Celebration

I'd say 90 is pretty special anyway, but when it's my Uncle Al , it's extra special.  What a great guy! We spent the weekend  in South Dakota celebrating my Uncle Al's 90th Birthday.  It was so great to be able to be there to celebrate with him and be with the family. Super weekend.  I'll share some photos from the weekend down below.    This card was made with the Fancy Pants Designs Trend Setter Collection
Such a fun line, and it works well for masculine cards also.

Uncle Al is my moms Brother. .  A hard working farmer all his life!  And still raising a huge garden at 90!
My mom ( on the far right) .   Her  only brother ... Uncle Al ( in the middle) and my Aunt Viv , who  turned 90 a couple of years ago, ( on the far left)   At one of my Grandparents Anniversary celebrations.

It was such a nice day to catch up with the cousins.

His birthday celebration was at the Senior Center in Bonesteel SD.  A lunch for family and then open to the public in the afternoon for cake and icecream.

play time with the kids also.   I think I found my "mini me" lol

This little town sure holds a lot of memories for our family.  The Dance Hall ( the big white building on the left) is where our  parents met.  Our  grandparents farmed here  and then later retired to town.    Five out of Seven of us kids where born in SD.  Our dad took a job with the railroad later so the family moved to NE, where my next oldest brother and I were born.
But this place hold a big piece of all our hearts.

Starting of this Monday with a happy heart, after a great weekend.

Remember ... age is just a number :)

I hope your weekend was a good one!

Vicki

PS.  Be sure to stop back because I'll be posting again later today with a giveaway celebrating 9 years of blogging.

Clearly Creative Blog Hop with The Little Blue House

Well, it's time for another fun blog hop with The Little Blue House!

This month we will be sharing projects we created using  Bo Bunny "Sweet Life" papers and embellishments and sharing with you how we incorporated  Bella Blvd "Clear Cuts" into our project.  You can find these supplies  and lots more in the Little Blue House Online Store

At the bottom of this post I'll share links to the other Team Members Blogs, where they will be sharing there projects and inspiration.   The Little Blue House will be offering a Clearly Creative Grand Prize. To be entered for a chance to win all you have to do is visit each blog and leave a comment.

I'll be sharing how to re-purpose a thrift store frame to make a new piece of decor.

I picked up this gold frame at the goodwill for 99 cents.  It was gold, but I wanted it to be  prominently white, but with a little gold showing through. I painted the entire frame with white acrylic paint (two coats, letting it dry in between  each coat).   Once it was completely dry, and took a small piece of sand paper and lightly sanded the high spots on the frame, revealing the gold underneath.
Once that was done I cut my piece of Clear plastic ( with white strips) to fit just inside the lip of the back of the frame that originally held the glass.  I added just a bit of hot glue all the way around the lip of the back of the frame before setting the plastic piece in.

Now, time to make the center piece.   I cut a banner piece just long enough to fit inside my frame.
You can see below how I layered and added the other pieces  and stitched around the edge of the square yellow piece.   I stitched with gold thread, which really coordinated well with the gold that was showing thru on the frame.

Add your ribbon and tie it in a bow in the front.
All that is left to do at this point is to add the Tim Holtz Clipboard Clip to hold  the mail piece in place and and your chipboard saying to the bottom of the frame.  The Butterfly and the saying are both from the coordinating Chipboard pieces for the Bo Bunny "Sweet Life" Collection.  You can see them HERE

If you chose to put this in a stand, it's fun because you will see light thru where the clear plastic is. If you hang it on the wall, you will see the color of the wall behind.

The girls have all kinds of great projects and fun inspiration on their blogs, so I hope you will pop over and check them out.
