"Welcome" Chalkboard with felt flowers

I guess I've been busy with projects lately because I have all kinds of things to share, so I decided I'd squeeze in one more blog post.    I have always loved the look of felt flowers for projects, but I guess I assumed they were harder to make than they really are.    I had this super cute Chalkboard shape from ADORNit that I've been wanting to make something with for my front door.   My sis and I had bought all these beautiful pieces of felt a while back to give making some flowers a try.. so if I was going to do this, it was time to check out some You Tube videos on making felt flowers.  I don't know why I always assumed making these flowers was going to be so hard, because they go together just how I had imagined.  I was going to do a video to show you ,but there are SO Many on You Tube if you just type in " Felt Flower tutorials"  Check it out.     You can find the Chalkboard shape HERE

While I had the felt out, I did a couple other projects.   Look out, once you start making the flowers ... they are so cute and easy, that it's hard to stop. lol

What else has been going on around here?   All things FALL.   Pumpkin Muffins, and Fall smelling candles burning .  I love Fall smelling candles ... oh and anything Pumpkin! lol

Mums and pumpkins.   This was one I had a few years back that was just so gorgeous.  I've never found another one link it :(

Oh, and it's harvest time, so there is a lot of this going on around us.   I'm pretty excited that I might get to experience more of this (harvest ) a little more personally the first part of this week.  My friend Karen and her husband Farm.  I always think it's so cute that she helps him in the field. She laughs at me when I say, "I love that".  I've never experienced riding in farm equipment or anything like that.  I know... It sound weird but I think stuff like that would be so cool to experience.   Guess what??  She called and said they were going to be combining near me tomorrow and wanted to know if I wanted to come (YIPPEE)   If it all works out, I will be able to cross this off my bucket list.   ( You know me.. if this happens I'll be sharing photos). I'm excited.

Other than that, it's been fairly quiet around here, as the past three days ( actually nights for Dan) have been is three 12 hour days in a row before having two off.  Yesterday afternoon my friend Deb and I went into Omaha for a little shopping and then for a bit to eat.  It's been a hard few months for my friend Deb, as she lost her husband this year.  It was quick and unexpected, so it's been very hard on her.  She now has her house for sale and her plan is to move back to  her home town a couple of hours from here. I'm sure going to miss her, but I want her to be happy.  My heart has just broken for her these past few months.  Getting out yesterday and having time to chat face to face instead of just on the phone was great.

Oh.. and it was funny because we met up and both of us  were wearing our new ADORNit tops.
I've always loved ADORNit clothes ,but it's only recently that they have started ADORNit Curvey for larger sized.  YAY!  Super cute stuff!   ( if you check out the links , it will take you to the home page, just click on the Boutique and there will be drop downs for you to choose what you want to look at.)

Time to run throw in a load of laundry and pack Dans lunch.  I hope your day is awesome!
Hugs all around!

Art Play "Happy Day" Card and my New Chic Order

Hey everyone!  I hope your week was fantastic!   I can not believe how great the weather has been here. I'm just taking in these gorgeous Fall days! We are just enjoying every minute of it.  Winter will be here soon enough.  This card is pretty much a good example of how hard I'm fighting the grays and browns of winter approaching. lol
I colored this image from the ADORNit art play sheets.  They are 12x12 sheets that are just full of fun images.  They are called "paintables" but you can paint, use colored pencils, chalk or any markers you like.  This was was done with Sharpies ( fine point) and then Chalk for the background.  The paper are "Blender Basics" from ADORNit also.
You can see all the Paintable sheets here.

There are tons to choose from as well as a number of other things, journals ect..  but here is what the sheets look like. They are super Cute :)   I made a card out of some of mine recently, but I've also made book marks, gift  tags and a shadowbox I'll be sharing.   If you are on Facebook, be sure to follow Adornit Art Play for tons of inspiration.

I also wanted to share with you more about the goodies I got from Newchic.  I ended up ordering this  purse, a billfold and a casual clutch.   There as so many things to choose from , it was a hard decision.  I have a thing for purses and I've been needing a new billfold.. so this is what I finally decided on. I will say, they certainly have LOTS to choose from! Something for everyones personal style.  And the prices are great!  I love sharing  with others when I find something I really like so here is the link  Newchic.   So you know delivery does take a bit longer.  It was worth the wait.  I'm happy with everything I ordered.
Amy and Wes were here, so I talked her into holding them so I could get a good picture.
This is the purse.  I LOVE the color!  It's a perfect size for me and has pocket inside.  One on the side that has a zipper, and I love that.

Brand Women Simple Grid Leather Handbag

This Wallet is the one of the other things I ordered.  It's going to be  great for Spring ..but it's a fun Fall color also.  I'm certainly using it now :)

Women Candy Color Wallet New Fashion Purse Handbag

And I also ordered this casual Clutch.  Something for those times when I don't want to take a bigger purse.  Funny thing is Amy loved it so much, I gave it too her. lol  I can order another.   (it will just give me a reason to place another order) , and you how that goes, I'll  order two or three things.. because when have I ever ordered just one thing :)

Women Elegant Genuine Leather Double Zipper Wallet Ladies Cash Phone Cards Purse

I wish I would have had this before the kids left for California, as it would have been a thing for Amy to use when they were out sight seeing.   Wes and Amy have been gone the last 8 days in CA, where Amy is originally from. Her parents still live there, but just sold there house as they are planning to move here to NE, for Summers and live at their river house in AZ for the winters.   I think Amy wanted to show Wes around and also see the house she grew up in one last time.

It was fun to see the photos they were sharing on their adventure. They did lots of traveling and took in the sights.

Adventurers lol

And Wes's first time at the Pacific Ocean.

Jep ( their new adopted pooch)  was happy to see them when they got home.  They already had this trip all planned and had tickets before all this came up with the dog adoption.  We told them go ahead, and we will keep him here.  He was so good, but it will be good for him to go home and get settled in with them now.

We love you Jep!!

I hope you are enjoying your October wherever you are.  The days here have been just gorgeous.  A little cool in the morning for Miss Lily, but I try hard to keep her stylish and warm at the same time . lol  She hates being cold! She sees me get her jacket out and she comes running.

Thanks so much for taking time to stop by!  Have a great weekend my friends!

"They say it's your birthday!" Art play card and Accucut cupcake stand

Of course I think October is a great Birthday month ( wink) Not only is it my birthday month but I share it with so many others that I love dearly. My first born, my best friend, nephews, a brother in law.. ect  In honor of all October birthday, I thought I'd share a little birthday fun.
I have been having so much fun with these Art Play images from ADORNit.
I never thought I'd enjoy it as much as I do.  I have always shied away from coloring stamps like I've said.  But these have thicker lines that are so forgiving.  Now that I quit putting so much presser on myself.. thinking I have to be an expert colored/and master at shading... and thinking I needed a hundred expensive markers.. .it's been so enjoyable!
I used this image to make a card for my brother in law, with a little matching cupcake stand, using my AccuCut cupcake stand die.   All the papers used are from the ADORNit Blender Basics Paper Pack.

I don't use any specific Marker  on my cards when I color. I use anything from watercolor pencils, Sharpies, Prisma, Crayola markers, Zig markers, watercolor paint to Chalk. Whatever I choose :)  And I mix on each thing.  No rules! That's what I like!  Even if my image doesn't turn out just the way I wanted , it's okay, because I totally enjoyed the process.  I am finding it so relaxing at night to just color while I'm watching TV.

These printable sheets come like this on a 12x12 sheet.. and the paper they are printed on is a dream to paint or color on.
By the way, pop on over the ADORNit Art Play on Facebook ... be inspired and share you creations also.
There are many sheets to choose from and also books!
You can find the sheet HERE
and the books HERE

You can find my cupcake die at AccuCut HERE

Crafty stuff aside and on to life!
My sis and Brother in law are celebrating their Grandson Tennessee's FIRST Birthday with him in CA today!!  Happy Birthday little man.  Aunt Vic loves you so much!!

They had asked me to go with them, but I had already told Amy and Wes we would keep Jep while they were on vacation. Of course Wes said they would work something else out, but I just couldn't do that to Jep.
The timing of them adopting Jep, wasn't the best because they new they would be living for CA where Amy is from for 9 days. They had to adopt him then if they wanted him, so he only had a little bit of time with them before the had to leave.  Poor boy has had  so much to have to adjust too in such a short time.  I feel better that he's with us and getting lots of love and attention until they get home.

The kids had some time with Amy's family and then off to do some sight seeing.  Here in Hollywood.

Sure seems like they are enjoying themselves.
Wes's first time to the Pacific Ocean.

And lots of hiking.

Meanwhile we are holding down the fort and doing a little light reading. lol ( a book Wes had ordered) lol

And everyone is becoming the best of friends.

Jep has lots of energy so we are staying busy.  Don't let the above photo fool you. This was just a power nap.lol

PS.   before I close.... if you are around on Sunday evening , ADORNit is hosting a virtual Party online on FB.  Lots of  great giveaways!

I hope your weekend is/was a great one!

Thanks so much for stopping by. I  appreciate  you all so much!

It's a Christmas Tradition

It's rarely that you would stop by my blog and I would be sharing a "Paperless Post" lol  But today is one of those days.  I'm Collaborating with "Paperless Post" to do a blog post about Christmas Memories.  Paperless Post, has all kinds of great paper products.  Cards for all occasions, photo cards,  announcements, ect.      They are currently  partnering with the (RED) charity to create a special Christmas collection and ane donating part of each purchase in support of the fight against AIDS.
They have some super fun and creative things, so hop over and check them out if you can.

It won't be long and Christmas will be here.  Time to pull out the boxes and decorations, get cards sent, and start the Christmas cookie baking.
Today I'm going to share a Christmas Tradition in our family, that involves just that. Baking..

In our family there is one special cookie that has stood the test of time and been shared at every Christmas for as long as I can remember ( I'm sure before I was even born).
We always call them "Mom's Sour Cream cookies"   but the recipe was actually carried on by my mom from our dear Aunt ( Ede) Edith
Aunt Ede was the kindest sweetest most patience person you could ever meet.  She was my dads sister. She has been gone for 40 plus years not ,but we all loved her dearly, and have so many many fond memories of her.  She made these cookies often.. not just for Christmas.

After Aunt Ede passed ,mom started making these cookies for us each Christmas.  For those next generations who never had the joy of knowing Aunt Ede, the cookies suddenly became "Grandma Dunn's cookies".
Let me first let you know, ( if you aren't a regular reader and already know) I come from a large family.  I am the baby of 7.  I came along later in my parents lives as a bit of a surprise. lol Anyway, there are 7 of us kids, all of us have kids, some grand kids and some great grand kids.  We used to all gather at mom and dads for Holidays but as our family grew, it just became to many for one house. We talked about  having Christmas at home on Christmas with our own families and decided , that we still all wanted to be together no matter where is was we had Christmas.  Now we rent a place... and  we are TOGETHER.  It's not mom and dads but we are TOGETHER and that's what's important.  It took a while and it was odd at first, but now it's just "the norm",it's what we do on Christmas. It can be a bit of a zoo at times...but that's how we like it :)  It's part of being a big family.

That time always includes these cookies.

For years mom made many many batches of these cookies, and not only brought them to Christmas but also had containers filled with them for each family to take home with them.  She would start working on baking them in the weeks before Christmas and stick them in the freezer so they would be ready. She would take them out a day or two before Christmas and frost and decorate them.  As mom aged and arthritis took it's tole on her hands, it became hard for her to stir the dough for these multiple big batches, but she did not want to give it up, so I would drive into town and do the stirring part for her. ( our mom didn't let anything stop her :)

The last year of her life she was staying here at our house at Christmas time, so we baked together.  Her, my sis Jan , her daughter and my daughter in law.  I know my out of state sisters would have loved to be there with us.

This was a day that will be in my memories forever.  Mom showing us , teaching us.
Below is a photo of my sis and my mom. They are making another favorite cookie mom always made.  Date pinwheels.

One of us would do the mixing, one the rolling and cutting and the other the baking, and then we would switch.

This photo of my mom rolling dough is precious to me. She passed away just a month later,  after celebrating her 90th Birthday at the end of December.

It will be 5 years that mom has been gone.  We miss her so much and things are not the same with out her and Dad.  But we are carrying on the cookie tradition ( as well as many others).  We get together at my house and make batch after batch.
In the photo below you can see, we have the photo of mom rolling out cookies taped up on the cupboard right where we are working.  It's the photo above of her standing in that same spot, her granddaughter stands now..... doing the same thing.

So... we know have our own tradition for getting together before Christmas to make "Moms Sour Cream Cookies".

Below is my Daughter in law Kate, frosting and decorating.

And my sis and niece decorating.

Pans and pans of frosted cookies ready to head to our get together Christmas Eve.

and join the table of other Baked Christmas goodies.

This is not even close to being the entire family but here are some of us.  It's hard to get everyone in one photo, because people are coming and going all evening. Some have to make it to their spouses family that night also.  You just gather them for a photo when you can. lol   Of course our sisters and their families out of state cant always be their that day with us..but they are always with us in our hearts, just as mom and dad are.
It's a fun crazy time that we wouldn't give up for anything.

Trust me, just trying to gather this bunch is a chore. lol

It's all about ... family.

I could type up this recipe nice and neat, but that just takes something away from it for me.   Here is moms original.   With her adjustments made, .. showing age and lots of love from being used  so many times.

*note*  if you want to make them ahead, they freeze well, just dont frost until you are ready to eat them, as the frosting tends to get sticky when frozen.
The frosting mom used was just a mix of an egg white beat until fluffy with powdered sugar and a bit of vanilla.  It sets up  when it drys and makes it easy to stack the cookies.

Thank you for letting me share my favorite Christmas Memory/Tradition with you!

I always find it so fun and interesting to hear others Holiday traditions, please share one in the comments.  I would love it!

Thanks for stopping by!

Framed layout - ADDORit Owl

These faces make my heart happy!   This is my niece Neely and her little Tennessee. I love this photo so much! Once I did this layout using these cute ADORNit papers, I decided I wanted to put it in this frame to give to my sis and brother in law.
I have to tell you I have this new found love for ADORNit papers.  I guess I had never really seen all the different papers and collections they have.  I just placed another order. lol    This Owl (Charcoal) collection is  one of my favorites..but it's hard to choose a favorite because I love so many of them.  Another favorite is the Timberland Critters Collection.  Oh.. so cute!  You can see it here if you are interested.

I've also been  having fun with the Paintable Art Play images.    I've never been much of a "colorer" when it came to stamping but this is so much easier for me.  I love the wider lines because they are so much more forgiving. I also always thought I had to have a hundred fancy/expensive markers and be a master at blending...but not true.  I never wanted to invest a lot in markers since I wasn't sure how much I'd do it.  I've been trying out some different markers to see which I like best .  I'll be doing a post about it soon.  I'd love your input on markers.  If you have a preference ... what you have experienced with different markers.

Here is Tenn with his Halloween card that came in the mail from Aunt Vicki :)
I cant believe he's going to be a year old this month!!

It's that time of the year :(   we have to watch the pretty pants and the garden  be taken by the first freeze. So sad.  Wes and Amy picked the last of the garden the other day, ( knowing it was going to freeze that night).  So I made stuffed peppers for Dinner.  I'm going to miss garden produce!!!
I couldn't let my deck plants go. I covered them the other night when it froze, knowing this week would be warmer.  I can enjoy them a few more days.

Oh, I forgot to mention that I spent  Monday in Lincoln with my sis , working on this mini album for Tennessee. We used the  Owl Collection and the Timberland Critters collections.

My sis has such beautiful eye for decor. I just snapped a few photos with my phone to share, but someday I will go back with my camera and give you the full tour. It's so pretty!

You can see in the photo below my sis collects milk glass cake plates.  I didn't begin to get all of them in a photo.  Here dinning room ( which I didn't get a photo of this time) is full of cake plates and other pretties.

The next two photos are from the front room.

I think this dresser was one of the best deals we found on a junk'n trip. The patina is AMAZING!  I think it was like $15.  Bam... deal of the day for sure!

I was in Lincoln Monday anyway, as we were getting together to celebrate Wes's birthday.  We had planned to eat/drink at Blue Bloods Brewery, and then take the tour there of Robbers Cave.
It was a great night.  Cool place and the food was amazing!

The cave tour was SO interesting!  If you are ever near Lincoln, I highly recommend it!

Wow, this blog post got longer than I thought! lol  I'll close for now, but I'll be back soon.  Stop by Thursday when I'll be  collaborating with some favorite bloggers sharing Christmas family memories.

Until then! Enjoy life!

Thanks, as always for coming by!
