"Merry & Bright"

Hi Everyone!  I'm squeezing in one more post this week, to share a Christmas themed project and to be able to wish  you all a Merry Christmas. I'm sure everyone is busy, busy, busy about now, so I will keep my rambling to a minimum. lol
This silly little owl ( who looks like he's been dipping in the egg nog) is hanging on my kitchen window right above my sink now.  I think he's funny. And he reminds me to stay light and don't let the stress of the holiday hustle and bustle keep me from enjoying what's important. ( and I guess, if nothing else.. drink the egg nog) lol

He was made using the 2016 Christmas Collection from Fancy Pants, Merry & Bright.
I LOVE these new acrylic titles!  Love the font , the convenience and just the entire look of them.

The wood shape I used for my base is from ADORNit.   They have lots of fun shapes HERE

So, I finished up the last of the baking and picked up the key for the place we rent for Christmas Eve. (it's get'n real).  I'm so excited to see everyone!

I am always the one talking about the importance of photos  I cant even imagine the number of layouts I've done in my life to preserve the memories of my family. I cherish photos.   BUT.... ugh... I do not like being in them.    I used to think, "oh, I'll be better about it when I loose some weight". ect ect..    Then I realized I better quit waiting for that :/  This is now. This is who I am now. No one is guaranteed tomorrow.
I  am way more comfortable being behind the camera than in front of it.  As moms I think a lot of us (consciously or unconsciously) tend to do that.   So I challenge you to be in the pictures more.
 It's important.

These are my people.

I adore these photos of my kids.  Who doesn't love photos of their kids.. no matter how old they are.
It was SO hard to try to find a time that would work for all of us.  Some work  days, some nights, all with different days off, and all living in different directions. ( although all within an hour).    At one point I thought I had it all figured out and then hours changed and it fell thru.  I was disappointed and had just put the idea to the side, thinking .. maybe next year we'll get a family picture.    But because I have an awesome Daughter in Law, she got everyone's schedules , figured out a time that would work for everyone and coordinated that with Gabby ( who took the photo).  Thank you Kate!       I was thrilled! The guys were doing their general grumbling about having to do pictures and it was FREEZING out.. .but we did it!
Gabby came, we ran out to the side yard, she snapped away .. and wahhhh laaa!

I am so thankful for these pictures.

So... from our house to yours... Merry Christmas!

It's time for baking!

Yes, it's that time of year, when most of us do more baking than we do any other time during the year. So this post is dedicated to your sweet tooth lol.
I do love to bake. I've cut back a lot over the years. I used to make many different kids.  Our boys ( along with Dan) just aren't sweet eaters. I, on the other hand AM!  If it's in the house I don't leave it a lone.( and just because it's in the freezer doesn't  mean it's safe). lol   It is still fun to bake tho, and I love giving baked goodies as gifts as well as taking it to our big family gathering Christmas Eve.
Here is a idea for individual cookie bags.  I used Kraft bags from Fancy Pants Designs and the new Merry & Bright Collection make them festive!

There are so many super cute pieces in the Ephemera Pack with this collection.
This collection is beautiful! Great patterns and colors!  I punched a couple of different sizes of circles out of my papers scraps to create the garland.  I just machine stitched them together.

These fun little bags didn't take any time at all to put together, and I really like the way they turned out.

If you would like to read more about these, you can see my entire post on the Fancy Pants Designs Blog HERE

Since I'm talking about baking, I wanted to mention a bit to you about the "Pie Turtle" I told you about in my last post HERE
It's a new endeavor my friend Julies' daughter Michelle has started.  It's quite clever!

Well, they have officially begun their Kickstarter Campaign!
This video will tell you all about what   Don't let your pie slide

Here you can see all the pans that will fit in the Pie Turtle.

It's pretty amazing.

As long as I'm talking about baking, I should share a couple of photos from today.  I watched  Emmett at his house today and we made cookies and decorated them.  He was pretty excited about it.  I had quite an assortment of sprinkles, and trust me... he put them to good use. lol
I was busy cleaning up a bit when he was decorating his last cookie, so when he said, "I'm just going to add a few more sprinkles to mine ok"?   I just keep cleaning up and said. "ok".    When I turned around he was sitting there with this sightly nervous look on his face, then grinned. My eyes were quickly drawn down to  his cookie.  There is was in all its glory.... with sprinkles seriously piled an inch high.   I convinced him we needed to tip some of those sprinkles off on to a few other cookies..  He agreed that would be fine. ( hey you cant fault the kid for trying) lol
The cookie he's eating in the photo below is after we dumped off what we could of the big pile right in the center.

He seriously cracks me up.

It was bitterly cold today with freezing rain and snow.  Emmett and I were just oblivious to it all.  Just busy in the kitchen baking cookies.

We don't have any grandbabies yet, but I'm lucky to have some pretty special wee ones around to keep me smiling.
Speaking of smiling.  I am so excited for my sis Jan ( and brother in law Keith).  Their little grandson Tennessee and his mommy and daddy will be back in NE for Christmas.   Tennessee just turned one in October so this is going to be a fun Christmas for all of them.  Oh, and did I mention... I CAN NOT WAIT to see them!!

The count down is really on now. Christmas is coming fast.  You'll be hearing from me again soon because I have some Christmas projects I need to post this week.

It's a busy time of year.  But I keep telling myself to remember too slooooooooow down and just enjoy it!
It's so easy to just get focused on all that needs to get done.  I try to remind myself that it will be okay even if it  doesn't all get done.  ( I'm usually the only one who notices if something doesn't get done anyway).   We put too much pressure on ourselves.  I say let the dusting wait.  Put your feet up, light a candle and relax with a cup of coffee or a glass of wine, watch an old black and white Christmas movie, .. or just enjoy the lights of your tree. It's all over so quckly....    so enjoy it

My dad will have been gone 30 years come Thursday and my mom 4 years just into January.  I miss them so much always, but especially this time of year.  Doing things like making moms cookies  with my sis or taking a drive to look at Christmas lights one night , are the traditions a really cherish . Those things are the things I will always make time for. So I'm telling myself, ... do whats important, what makes my heart happy at Christmas , and anything else that gets done is just a bonus.

I'll be back with a couple for things to post this week before Christmas.  Thanks for taking time to stop by.

"Christmas in the Air" layout using ADORNit

Hello friends! Can you believe we are about to hit the midway point of December? This month always seems to go by fast but exceptionally so this year for some reason.    I've worked ahead to get this months assignments done so that I could take time to just enjoy the holiday season.   I finished up 40 more layouts for the albums I'm working on for hire. Now I'm taking a break from that also.... until after the first of the year.  It's very gratifying to see them all stacked up and ready to go into the albums :)
Today I thought I'd share a layout I did with ADORNit papers and stickers. These photos of Lyla are from last year.  Hard for me to believe she has just celebrated her 2nd birthday now.

My sis Jan was here the other day for our annual baking day , when we make our moms Sour Cream cut out cookies.  I love getting together with her and keeping this tradition a live.  We made dozens of moms sour cream cooking and then continued on with a few more different kinds.  We commented many times on how much quicker things move along when there are two of us working on it.  We make a pretty good team.

I thought I'd share with you some photos of our get together at Julies house this past week.  Julie's daughter and son in law have a new endeavor that will be kicking off very soon.   It's a pie carrier called Turtle Pie.

Here is a bit about it:

Get your pie to the party in one piece! Pie Turtle is a non-slide pie carrier that prevents your beautifully baked pie from sliding around your car.
Pie Turtle is a non-slide pie carrier for your car that prevents your beautifull
y baked pie from sliding around the cargo area in your car or SUV. Pie Turtle is designed to survive sharp turns on your way to the party.
No matter how you drive, Pie Turtle will keep your pie exactly where you put it, protecting your perfect golden crust.
Shaped as a turtle, it holds your pie tightly on it's back while rubber cleats on its feet hold it firmly in place while you drive, preventing movement no matter how sharp the turn.
Convenient, cute, and the solution to an age-old problem, Pie Turtle is great for everyone from the experienced baker to the busy mother.

So, Julie had a get together at her house for us girls to share the excitement with us...... and it was all in the cutest TURTLE theme.

Check out these adorable cookies make to look just like the Turtle Pie logo!

And , just because she is the queen of theme parties, we also had TURTLE pie!  It was delicious!

She also had Aronia Berry pie.  The first time any of us had ever had it.

Even her table was set in the TURTLE theme.  Every little detail.

Because Julie's life has been devoted to Early Childhood Education, she had these fun interactive book kits all ready for us to put together. The other girls have grandchildren to make their books for .... and luckily I have my Emmett :) buddy.  Julie thought the book might be a little young for him, but he LOVED it!  We made them to have pieces they would have to match into the pages of the book. ( Attached by velcro).
It was such a cute idea.

I also gave him my santa turtle, which he also loved.

Any day spent with these girls is a good day!  I am so blessed to have their friendship.  We support each other and each others kids 100%.
I'll be telling you more about Michelle and Reeces new endeavor as they begin their kick starter program, but in the meantime please support them by liking their page on Facebook.   "Turtle Pie"

And you can find out more about Turtle Pie here at TURTLE PIE

I hope your week ahead is a good one.
I'm so thankful for each of you.  Thank you for letting me be part of your life.
So happy that you stop by!

ADORNit Paintables with the girls

Hi Everyone!
Today I thought I'd share some photos from the other day when I had Karen and Jan over for a little cider, Christmas music, chat time and crafting with  ADORNit Paintables.
I had ordered sheets so that we could all be working with the same images to make 5 different cards.  To make things go a bit faster, I pre cut and kitted the card pieces so that the girls could just focus on the coloring/painting.

I wanted them to be able to try a number of different things just to experience them.  So out came the supplies.  We did different techniques with Watercolor, using watercolor pencils, watercolor (cakes) and watercolor crayons to paint with.  We also used chalk, a variety of many different markers, glitter pens, Dimensional magic, Stickles ect..
I am so impressed with the weight and texture of the paper these images are printed on . They just seemed to work well with anything we tried.

It was really a fun., fun day! I love spending time with these two and could easily chat with them all day.  (Oh, that's right we did chat all day) lol   So nice to to set down, relax and just visit while creating.
Here is one of the cards we made.  These images are cut from 12x12 printed sheet.  Each image different.  I just ordered a number of sheets so that we could be doing the same thing.   If you prefer bigger images or a mix of different sized images they offer that also.

I think the girls really like trying out the different things that they may not have tried in the past.   They are always up for learning and trying new things.  Both are super creative!  Although I have used all these different mediums in the past, It's been in different ways. I'm still learning while painting these images also.  But practice makes perfect right?  We even if it's not perfect ( now or never) it's fun and so enjoyable, so that's all that matters to me :)

Here is another card we made.  I love this little dear!

I cant wait to do this again.

Another card. This one with some non traditional Christmas colors.
I was cracking the whip on them a bit for a while, lol, so I gave them a break for some snacks .

Card number Four.

and five!

Time to re energize again , so we had some  Pumpkin Dessert.

I found this  yummy recipe that is so easy, over at "Buns in my Oven".   I've made it twice now.  Thought I would share.   If you read in the comments below the recipe on her blog you can see you can vary things.  I used walnuts and topped with cool whip.    You can find the recipe HERE

I'm so glad we did this at the beginning of the month, since December can get so crazy.  I think a little down time before digging our heals in to December was a great stress reliever.

I cant wait to do it again after the new year.  Now to figure out what images to order for us. hmmmm

Before I close, I have to mention my baby boys Birthday December 2.  I love him so much!

Happy Birthday Jarad!!

I'm wishing you all a wonderful week ahead!
Thanks so much for stopping by for  hello!

A little fun in a jar

Hey friends!
I hope  you are all having a great week! Mine is certainly better than last week.  No toothache ( knock on wood), and no migraine.  Yay!  I feel like I've caught up on my sleep and  that helps a lot!
Today I used my birthday gift, and went and used my massage certificate.  Ohhhhh... that was heaven!

A while back  there was a little video floating around Facebook of some cute little jars with domed lids (made with half a clear plastic ornament), and I just thought they were adorable.   They are the ones I showed in my last post, that us girls made on Thanksgiving.  I found the link to the website "Smart School House" were the post originated. There is actually lots of great crafty inspiration there. Defiantly worth checking out.  If you click on the link to check it out, you'll see set by step photos and a great video.
These are super fun to make.

I recently created one to hold Christmas tags. And you can see the entire blog post here on the Fancy Pants Designs Blog.

I used the " Merry & Bright" Collection.

Here are some of the tags I made for my Christmas gifts.  The jar is just a fun little handy keeper.

As I promised in my last post, here are photos of some of the jars Amy, Diana and I made for our little craft time after our Thanksgiving meal last week.

I found tons of cute little things to put under the domes at Hobby Lobby ( which is were I found the jars and plastic ornaments also). And .... all their Christmas stuff is 50%. Whoooo hoo!

Diana is one crafty lady!  I love how she thinks out side the box and isn't  afraid to just right in and do her own thing. I always look forward to see how her projects turn out.  Super creative thinker!

I found most of these little accessories in the ornaments isle.  You by have to remove the little ring or string that they have on the top of them.

Amy always jumps right in .  She's defiantly a crafty girl! She is also creative.. ( and speedy).  She was leaving Diana and I in her smoke. lol

Other than the use of a hot glue gun, these would be a fun project to do with kids. You would just have to give them a little assistance with the hot glue.

I hope you get a chance to give them a whirl!

And.... I hope you have a great day!   Enjoy it!

Thanks friends, for stopping by!

hugs all around!

Vicki
