Glimmer Mist is too pretty to waste a drop

I have been working with lots of new Tattered Angels goodies over the last few days. I'll be sharing those projects soon...but wanted to show you what happened when I was cleaning up. lol
I usually use up all the Glimmer Mist on my mat by laying manila tags in it. They absorb the color and are so beautiful. I let them dry, set them in a basket on my desk.. and pull them out just to write notes on when mailing something to someone.. or add to a gift ..whatever. The other night.. is was just REALLY late when I was cleaning up.. so I wiped it up with a couple of paper towels .. tossed them in the trash and headed for bed.

When I got up in the morning..the paper towel in the trash caught my eye. The colors were SO beautiful!
hmmmm.... well.. as you can see.. I couldn't let it go to waste. lol
Especially when I pulled out this photo I had taken on the front porch last Fall.. I just had to be. lol

I LOVE the way these embossed Glimmer Chips take ink. After Misting them with Glimmer Mist.. I let them dry, and ink the edges with my favorite (Chestnut Roan color) Cat Eye from Colorbox. (Clearsnap)

The "Favorite Finds" piece is from the "Outdoor" Bingo Boards set. It''s one of the three calling cards that also come in each set. ( along with three bingo cards and three quote pieces)

Oh.. yeah..before I forget to mention is.... did you see this?

Glimmer Mist is the same great product with a Fabulous NEW Look!
You can read about all the fantastic giveaways Tattered Angels is doing , over on the Glimmer Mist blog all this month. Better jump over and put your name in the hat. HERE

I had to share this adorable photo of Chloe. lol

Wes stopped here on his way home last night. He shared some photos from his river trip. The first part of the trip , he and his friend Andrew took on the Dismal River (canoeing). I heard lots of stories. eeekkk Glad I didn't know how rough it was for them ..until after the fact. It obviously was a bit more of a challenge than they had anticipated...but you could hear how excited Wes was about the trip in hes voice.
It's is the fastest flowing river in NE. But I said to him.."It doesn't look that fast in this these photos". He said .. well when it was crazy fast.. I couldnt exactly stop rowing and take pictures. lol ( oh.. yeah.. point made) lol

I had to say.. I laughed when I saw the photo below. Looks like it pretty much sums it up. The guy and his facial expressions just crack me up. ( kinda like Griff) lol

After that part of the trip, a bunch of them had cabins rented up at Long Pine.. where the tubed and spent the July 4th weekend.

Weston, Jarad and Kate (far left)

It was great to know the boys where hanging out together.. AND getting a little time away from work. They both work alot of hours .. so this was off time that was well deserved.

Glad to have them all home safe and sound now. (says the mother) lol

Crafty Secrets DT Challenge tutorials

Today is going to be a fun day! The Crafty Secrets DT girls are all posting tutorials today. So you are going to want to check them all out... I'm off to do just that as soon as I finish this post. . I have all their blogs linked at the bottom of this post.

**************

My tutorial is a step by step on how to make a standing shadow box ..using an old photo holder. I'll also be sharing some tips, and favorite products .. that help me when I'm creating.
Here's my project

.

I started with a old photo holder. Lots of us have some of these.. but if not.. they are easy enough to pick up . Estate sales, antique stores... ect..

The whole point is to give it depth, so it has a shadow box effect.... so you'll need some sort of "shallow" box. I used the one shown below and just cut the lid off..but anything similar will work. ( a rice-a-roni box works perfect too.)lol
The images I used are from the Crafty Secrets Heartwarming Vintage,

"Little Dolls" Image and Journal book. There are lots to choose from in the book ..but these are the pieces I used for this project.

The photo holder I used , is a tri-fold style..but really any style will work.. just adapt your design.

Pretty simple actually. First.. start by removing the top frame from the photo holder.
Your flat box will be adhered inside.

And then your frame adhered on top of that. Giving you the depth like a shadow box.

That is basically how it goes together...but it's easiest to work on your shadow box (inside) before you actually assemble and adhere it all together.

When you do adhere the frame and box pieces together... I've found this adhesive works great.

I use a tracing wheel to create a faux stitching effect , around the edges of each paper layer.

and.. I love using this pen for edging and highlighting.
( it's a startdust jellyroller from SAKARA)

To get as much dimension as possible, I add foam square between each of the layers , as I assemble.

These work great. I love that they come in smaller sizes also.

And this double sided tape works SO well for ribbons and trims.

After I've added my papers, image, embellishments .. and adhered it all together. I folded the two sides back and attached them with the tab and slot already on them.

It folds together in to a triangle shape.

Wha La! Easy !
There there a number of different images you can use from the "Little Dolls" book. You can check it out HERE. Along with all the Crafty Secrets papers I used HERE.

Hope you get a chance to give it a try!
Now.. be sure to check out what the other Design Team girls have posted for there tutorials today. These talented girls will have something great to share.. I have no doubt!

Feeling like a giveaway today?

Today over on the Fancy Pants blog... they are spotlighting the new "Boys" Kraft Cuts. Here's mine (be sure to pop over and check them all out if you can)

I have to tell you... when I first looked at these photos when I got home to edit.... I was so disappointed in this one ( the photo I used on the layout)..because the background was so blurry. Then... I started to look at it again.. and it started to grow on me. I LOVED the look on Griff's face and the fact that his tongue is out.. he's concentrating so hard. Now.. I think it's one of my very favorites. The kid and his facial expressions.. CRACK ME UP!... over and over again.

I took a round chipboard piece and punched three holes in it to look like a bowling ball. (kinda corny I know..but I had too) lol

** Journaling reads*.. " It's obvious... being a star bowler , is all about style and technique"

******************************************************

I usually try to share the "Creative stuff" at the beginning of each post and then ramble about day to day, or family stuff after that. That way those who are just interested in the "creative stuff" don't have to go through all the blah blah blah.. lol and my family and friends can still keep up on whats happening here. I've said it so many times..... the reason I started blogging was to share photos, and daily stuff with my family and friends who don't live near. Separating them here.. just doesn't make sense because family" IS the reason I scrapbook.

***
So..that being said...

The "mom" in me is feeling good now..because I finally heard from Wes... ( who has been canoeing down the Dismal river with a friend). They finally got to a spot near a town where he could get cell phone reception, so he called to say they were fine. He said it was a bit tougher than they originally thought it would be.. when they planned this trip. It was a short conversation...but I'm sure I'll hear all about it when they get back. Just glad they are safe.

This is just the first part of the trip for them.. but the rest will be spent with a Cabin to stay in at night. Wes , Jarad, Kate and a couple other friends, have a cabin rented in Long Pine for the weekend. I'm sure they'll have a great time. Jarad and Kate are leaving to meet up with them this morning.. so they are dropping "Cloey" (Kates dog) off here to play with Aly and Molly for the weekend. lol

I'm sure they'll have a fun weekend!

*****************************************

Tattered Angels Misting mat... woo hoo

Look what came today! Yay.. I've been wanting one of these treasures. It's the XL Misting Mat from Tattered Angels. They actually have two sizes. You can see them here.

They make clean up so easy. They can be used for misting of course ..but also for using your head gun on . There is a huge list of things ( as I was reading lable)..t hat you can use them for.. like, painting.. clay, candle , soap making... soldering ect... umm.... lets just say,..mine will get plenty of use. yay!

And I got another bunch of new CHA release stuff.. to put with the box I got a couple of weeks ago... to CREATE with. CHA is coming fast... so it's sample time.
I can wait to share projects using these new goodies with you. They are so cool!
The DT has been starting to post some on the Tattered Angels Blog that you can check out. I 'll post mine , as I get them done.
I did work on some "Kit Sample" books .

They sell the kits like this. You can see them all here. I'm just working on samples of the books , (made with just what is in the kit).. so that store owners can see what can be done with them.

No photos just ideas for pages... but aren't these colors beautiful?

****************************************************
Those goodies arriving cheered me up a bit today.. I was bummed because I ended up not going into Omaha to meet up with Jan and Neely today. My "Check engine" light came on last night.. so I thought I better take it in to have it checked before driving very far. Well.. I was feeling like I needed to stay home and get some things done that have upcoming deadlines anyway.. to I guess I feel good that .. at least I got alot done.
****************************************************
I also decided today that I'm going to be doing some giveaways this month. I am coming up on **my 1000th post** in the next week or so. How crazy is that?
Anyway... I decided I am going to do a number of different giveaways.. and I'm just going to pick winners randomly from the comments.
Random comments on random days... giving away random things. Hows that for specific? lol
I'm kind of "Random" that way. lol
