Vintage Street Market/Maya Road Purse

Hey everyone!   Sharing one of my Vintage Street Market projects today.   This month VSM teamed up with Maya road for some fun.  Both our Design Teams created projects using both companies products. You can check out the VSM blog HERE to see more.  The purse album below was a project I did for a give away on the blog.  Congrats to Kelly Sas the winner of this purse album.

I used the Maggie Jane paper from the new Family Fun Collection.   Flower from Prima and some of my favorite vintage trim.

All the pages are painted and waiting for photos.

The other day , I shared photos from Moms Birthday Saturday afternoon.  Well today I'm sharing some photos from later that night when the cousins got together at our cabin for a little campfire fun.

I look tired and a little chilly here..but trust me I was a Happy Camper!  Loved this time with the fam.
The photo below is me with my nephew Brent.  The photo above is three of my beautiful nieces.  Minn., Florida and CA girls :)

Nathanial was out for a ride.  (Nathanial is Brent's son)  my sister Donna's Grandson.  If you've been reading my blog very long at all, you have seen photos of Nathanial many times ... and are probably thinking "That cant be Nathanial!".... we'll, yep , that's him. He's growing up so fast. Boy is he TALL)

My son Weston with my niece Rhonda from AZ. ( my sister Donnas daughter)

Me, Rhonda, and my sister Jan.

I'm sure each of these pictures has a story behind it.  I might just have to find out what this one was about. lol  My nephew Scott, with my niece Kiley.   Lets  just  say .. we all had some laughs!  Awesome night together!

So I guess we had family here from NE, MN, AZ, CA, FL, CO, and SD

The boys even played some guitar in the shed. lol
I guess we decided to call it "Shed Fest 2011".   lol

Actually, we could not have asked for better weather.  Not to hot and not to cold.  Fall at the cabin is my favorite.  Perfect night for a campfire.

So my neice (Rhondas) son Bryce and my son Weston have birthdays just a few days apart.. and are a year apart in age. With them in AZ and us here, they have never gotten to celebrate their birthdays together.... well... until now...

how she got them to wear those hats?? I will never know. lol

I will tell you this much.  I'm pretty sure a good time was had by all.  Everyone was so happy to have some time to spend together just haning out and having fun.    To get to see these kids spend time with the cousins they dont get to see very often was priceless.  Lots of  laughing and hugging went on thats for sure.

Jarad, Rhonda, and Kate

I think we all realize, even more,  just how lucky we are to have each other.  Cant ask for more in life but to have people who love and support you, right?

Cant wait until we can do it again!
Until then we have lots of memories.

So Much to be thankful for

Well, I couldn't image a better title for this post. I guess "thankful" is just a great way to describe the entire weekend with my family and friends.  It's been so great having my family home this past week to celebrate moms 90th birthday with.. and just get to spend time with.   I'll share some photos  from Saturday (moms birthday party), but first here's a new layout.

This was a Fancy Pants layout I did for their blog using "Summers End" Glitter Cuts as the "Product Spotlight"   The photo is of my nephew Scott's family.

Always fun to add a little Glimmer mist too:)

I have so many photos I'd love to's hard for my to choose just a few, you know. lol    So here are some from the Party for mom on Saturday.    It was a BUSY and fun filled weekend for sure.  We had family home from all over.   About 60 of us... kids, grand kids, and great grand kids... alone.  We got together Friday night for Pizza and a bit of visiting. Then Saturday afternoon for moms party.  After the party we had people out to our cabin.  It was all so fun!    I'll share some photos from the fun time at the cabin later, but for now.. here are some from Moms party .
My brothers and sisters with mom.  Below from left to right ...
Donna, me , Dan ,Ray, Jan, Sharon.
(with us in our hearts.. My brother Gary, and Dad)

My mom enjoyed greeting all her family and friends as they arrived at the party.

below.. my friend Julie is looking through a photo book with her.

My sis Jan and I had set up a little area with vintage things from over the years, mixed with photos and keepsakes.  Everyone seems to enjoy it.   I had brought that pink chair for mom to sit in , so that she didn't have to sit in the wheelchair to greet people.  She looked so pretty.

These are some little pieces of stitching my mom did as a child.

I'm sure mom was more than ready for bed that night... because she greeted alot of   people :) but she was loving getting to see everyone.  She was so happy with the day.

Jarad and Kate... serving cake.   All of the grandchildren took turns serving cake, coffee, punch  and greeting at the guest book table.

Our boys Jarad and Weston with their grandma.
We all brought photos and put them in containers on each of the 10 big round tables, for people to look at.  It was such a great conversation piece. So much reminiscing going on :)     After the party as we were waiting the dinner to be brought in for the family, I found Grandma , Jarad and Hunter sitting together and looking through them. So cute!

We had food catered in for the family after the main party's the family ..serving up some dinner.

A fun photo of some of the girls with the vintage aprons :)

I cant begin to tell you how great it felt to have so many of the people I love so much .. all together the past few days.  It was wonderful!
Hard to say good bye again...but SO thankful for our time together. Thankful for safe travels for everyone, absolutly gorgeous weather, wonderful friends who made the day so special, and most of all for mom being well enough to enjoy it all!

A little bit more sharing

While I still have "theme" music up.. I thought I'd share the other three cards I did with a the retro theme.   Mondays challenge was fun.. and the projects the DT created were all amazing!  If you didn't get to check them out, you can get all the links below in Mondays post.    I had these three other cards I wanted to share, while we on a roll with this theme.  All of the papers I used are from the "Creating with Vintage Patterns CD" and the Images are from the "Girlfriend" double sided Creative Scraps.
The stamps used on the "I love you" card above is from the "Twinkle Stars" Clear Art stamp set.  I think they are perfect for a Retro feel background or accent. It was fun to add rhinestones to the centers for extra bling.

I used the same stamp set to create the border on the card below.  Instead of using bling on this, I used my SAKARA clear stardust pen.

The stamped border on the card below is from the "Mini Memories" Clear Art stamp set.

Oh... retro is just fun.

I know, I know.. you're thinking... "her dogs again"? lol   Yep.   As  ridiculous as I am about taking photos of my dogs.. can you even image how obnoxious I could be if  I had grand kids. lol

I love both these pooches so much, but Molly is more likely to stick with Dan, (I'm thinking's just because he goes outside more than I do :) ha , but the little sweetie face below.. is my sidekick morning, noon and night.  I've had alot of pets over the years... but this one ... well, she's just extra special.

What???  I changed gears on you didn't I? lol    I just had to share this photo of a  Praying Mantis , Dan saw out side on one of our trees.  He knows I come running with my camera, when he spots something interesting.  I love living in the country and so does he. As long as this thing stays OUTSIDE..... I think it's pretty cool!

It's always good to learn something new... so here's some interesting facts about Praying Mantis.  When I looked them up, I was pretty amazed by a couple of things about them.  Okay.. so if you just don't feel up to reading it all.... you just have to read what I printed in "bold".   INTERESTING
 Fast Facts
National Geographic

Diet: Carnivore

Average life span in the wild:12 months

Size:0.5 to 6 in (1.2 to 15 cm) long

Size relative to a tea cup: The praying mantis is named for its prominent front legs, which are bent and held together at an angle that suggests the position of prayer. The larger group of these insects is more properly called the praying mantids. Mantis refers to the genus mantis, to which only some praying mantids belong.

By any name, these fascinating insects are formidable predators. They have triangular heads poised on a long "neck," or elongated thorax. Mantids can turn their heads 180 degrees to scan their surroundings with two large compound eyes and three other simple eyes located between them.

Typically green or brown and well camouflaged on the plants among which they live, mantis lie in ambush or patiently stalk their quarry. They use their front legs to snare their prey with reflexes so quick that they are difficult to see with the naked eye. Their legs are further equipped with spikes for snaring prey and pinning it in place.

Moths, crickets, grasshoppers, flies, and other insects are usually the unfortunate recipients of unwanted mantid attention. However, the insects will also eat others of their own kind. The most famous example of this is the notorious mating behavior of the adult female, who sometimes eats her mate just after—or even during—mating. Yet this behavior seems not to deter males from reproduction.

Females regularly lay hundreds of eggs in a small case, and nymphs hatch looking much like tiny versions of their parents

See .. now you can go out and "wow" someone with your knowledge of Praying Matis :)
Have a really great day!!

Crafty Secrets DT Challenge "Retro inspiration"

Crafty Secrets DT is going RETRO today!  It's challenge day and we thought we'd have a little fun creating projects with a retro feel.   I'll link to all the DT blogs at the bottom of this post,so be sure to check out what the girls have been working on.  Also... Since Sandy is still in France, I'll be doing the blog post on the Heartwarming Vintage Blog today, so I hope you'll stop over.  I have other projects from the girls posted there, as well and a few "retro" cards I created this week.     Oh... and I even changed my music here, while this post is up... just to get you in the mood for the festivities :)  I hope you enjoy!

I created this little recipe "lunch box" for today.   I find these little  lunch box style tins at Target in the  $ bin.  I loved this color and thought it would be perfect for this project, so I was ready to go.
I used Papers from the "Creating with Vintage Images" CD from Crafty Secrets, as well as Kitchen Time Cuts and Kitchen Classics set of Clear Art Stamps.
( small silverwear are doll silverware)

I cut dividers for the recipes, and used a variety of different papers from the CD , images from the sheet of cuts, and the stamps to decorate them.

I tried to gather them together in a few shots so you can see most of them.

Crafty Secrets has MANY different images and stamps that have that fun retro feel. I just happened to choose these"Kitchen"themed products.     The cards I have posted on the Heartwarming Vintage blog are in a "Girlfriend" sort of theme.
I can tell you this much... I'm going to love this challenge!  I cant wait to see the DT's Creations!   Here are the links to their blogs   So.... take off your aprons girls, grab a cup of coffee and put your feet up to join me :)

Let Paper and Paint do the work

Boy you can tell things have been a tiny bit busy around here.. because I'm finding it hard to find time to sit down and do blog posts:(   Sorry kids. I'll be back in the swing of things soon.   We are getting excited because family has started to arrive for moms big birthday celebration next weekend.  I have a large family and we are spread out across the US, so this has been over a year in the works. For everyone to get time off from work, arrange flights ect.. has been a no small endeavor. There will be close to 60 of us .. kids, grand kids and great grand kids home at one time. Yippee!    We are all just so happy that mom is home and doing so well.  I was there visiting today and I just can believe how she has improved, and how much better she feels now that she is off all the pain meds  she was on.  Praise the Lord!     Again.. thank you all for all your thoughts, kind words and prayers.  Seems like you have all be through it with me:)  Whatever is happening in my life.. automatically seems to run over into my writings here. It's where I share :)  Thanks for listening.

Okay.. time to "share" something creative.     This is one of my Tattered Angels projects for Sept.
You can see my projects and LOTS of others the DT has created with Prima and Tattered Angels products together here on the Tattered Angels Blog.

I created this piece as a gift for my sister and brother-in-laws 50th wedding anniversary.  I used a piece of the Prima “Sew Cute” papers along with Tattered Angels Paints and sprays.

I accented alot with “Twinkle Toes” Glam I also used Sassy Silver Glaze and Cotton Candy Chalkboard.

With the combo of this beautiful paper, and TA paints I wanted to keep the embellishments to a minimum to show them off …and also keep the focus on the photo.

I painted a larger piece of thin wood to mount and frame this layout when I was finished.  I plan to give it to them next weekend when they are back for the celebration.  Hope they like it.

Well, I officially got my slippers out today!  Do you know what that means?  (yeh.. my feet are cold, right).  That means ... summer is going away... and fall is approaching.   I never have shoes on.  I'm barefoot any chance I get.  But... my tooties were COLD this morning.   I am not ready to say  goodbye to summer, although I do like fall.  (just not what comes after that) brrrr     Summer just seemed to fly by for me this year.    One thing I do not like about cold fall nights.. is my beautiful plants freezing.    I enjoy them so much.  Just as the weather cools a bit from the extreme heat, the plants start looking so nice..then FREEZE. poo!    I will enjoy them for what time there is left... then just look forward to the beautiful colors of the turning trees.

Monday is the Crafty Secrets DT challenge day, so I need to get busy and finish my projects tonight. (with my slippers on:)    Be sure to stop by on Monday, I'll have links to all the girls beautiful creations.

** Also, while Sandy is away in France( poor thing..haha), I did a blog post for her on the Heartwarming Vintage Blog.   I posted a number of great Halloween projects the DT has created.  Pop over and take a look HERE.

Thanks friends!

Enjoy your weekend!
