Whatevers Two - you didnt really think it was over did you?

 Whatevers Round  2

You didn't really think it was over did you????

nahhhhhhh .... no way ... it is not over....there are so many more Whatevers out there...they all need a story...and seriously it was way too much fun! We so enjoyed each others stories and the MANY amazing stories of those of you who participated that we've decided to create another year worth of stories and call this one Whatevers Two.

And, since Cat , Nat and I  had so much fun we thought we would invite a few friends to join us! So please join us as we offer a big round of applause and a great big welcome our friends Carmen Sanchez and Martha Richardson as they join us for Round 2 of the Whatevers!

We will start with the first Whatever in Round 2 on July 15, 2013 AND we would love to have you join us. And just in case you don't know how the Whatevers work, here's a short summary :)

The Whatevers – is a creative story telling project founded by Nat Kalbach, Vicki Chrisman and me in 2012.

I know you've been to a flea market now and again. As you peruse the different tables you come across a pile of old photos that just draws you in. As you look through the pile you get a weird thought and then begin to wonder just what were those people doing, thinking, experiencing in their lives? Sometimes you find a little trace of the history on those photos, the name and city of the photographer, a scribbled note or year on the back of the photo…but that is it. There is no more.

Really…no more? They are forgotten as long as they have no name and no story…

If you want, you can watch our intro video from 2012:

Here is how it works

  • Cat, Nat, Cuchy (Carmen), Martha and I and I have made a one-year commitment to each other and picked twelve photos for our Whatevers that we will write a story for.
  • Every month – if possible always on the 15th –  each of us will do a post with an individual story that goes along with the same photo.
  • If you want you can play along and we will have the photo for you to download and show us your version of The Whatevers. The photo will be posted at the end of our blogposts- but not on Facebook!
  • There is no rules to the story itself- it can be funny, sad, uplifting, breathtaking- WHATEVER
  • There is no rules on the length or the form of the story- it can be a short sentence, an essay, a poem or a soap opera – WHATEVER
  • There is no rules on the art form you choose – it can be a scrapbook layout, an altered art project, an art journal page – WHATEVER
  • Here is a rule though: if you take the photo you have to link back to us and show us your story.
  • These pictures are from our personal stash and are for personal use for you only! If you want to use them for a publication whether a book or magazine in print or digital form please ask for permission!
  • If you want to participate we’ll have a linky list for each Whatever Post.
  • You can also join our The Whatevers -Facebook Page

See you on July 15 with the first Whatever Two!

THANKS for stopping by!!

Summer is in full Swing

There's no doubt Summer is in full swing around here. So much going on!  This weekend is the towns celebration "87th Old Settlers Days".  Lots of fun things going on.  Next weekend is my Art groups Flea Market ( I'll show you more about that below), and next Thursday my niece Neely's band will be playing in Council Bluffs!
Brace yourself... photo overload my be just around the corner. lol
If you've been over to the Heartwarming Vintage blog, you've been peeks of the new double sided digital papers Crafty Secrets has just released.  If you missed it .. here is the post on the Heartwarming Vintage blog.
Here is a card I created using one of the new double sided sheets and a image from the Garden Creative Scraps.   Adhesives: Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L Crafty Foam Tape and EZ runner.

I love using the foam tape for dimension.
Well, the rain has stopped and the heat is here. Welcome to Nebraska!  You can gage how hot it is by looking at Daisy's  tongue. lol   The yard and the trees are still looking so green, I hate to see what happens when it gets hotter and dryer :(

So this is the event my Art group girls are hosting next weekend.  The first one, I hosted here last fall.  Now Stephanie is hosing this one.
Her family owns this cool old garage on the Hwy going thru Rogers Nebr. ( you cant miss it)  Very Cool historic building!   It has a huge parking lot, and that will be where this even will be held.  If you live close enough to drive on over, we'd love it!  We'll have lots of fun things.
I haven't had as much time this year to get things together as I did last Fall, with the wedding and everything..but I am pulling out a quite a few things...................and trust me , the other girls have plenty!
I need to spend some time out in the garage tomorrow .. pricing.
Some things are hard to part with , but I know they will be well loved by someone new :)
Well, like I said, I'm super excited to get to see my niece Neely and her band perform next week in Council Bluffs!   They will be playing with the band
"She and Him"( video below)   I love Zoey Deschanels voice!
Below is my nieces band "Tilly and the Wall".   Neely is the one with the long blonde hair.     AND.... TODAY IS HER BIRTHDAY!!
Thanks for stopping by my friends!

A few new Fancy Pants Designs Cards using "Wonderful Day" Collection

I hope all of you had a great weekend and are ready to jump into another week head first :)  The sun was shining when I woke up this morning. YAY!   Monday mornings are always easier when the sun is out.  We had a fun weekend with outdoor movies here Saturday night. I'll share some photos with you, further down in this post, but first of all............    A few cards I made today with one of the brand new Fancy Pants Designs Collections "Wonderful Day"

Super fun colors and designs!

Here are both the newest lines from Fancy Pants Designs. I love them both!
Wonderful Day Collection
Memories Captured Collection

Also new..       Check out these!!           Cork labels and Shapes

and these!
                                                                  Chalk labels and Tape

I didn't use the cork or chalk on these specific cards but I will be sharing a project soon that I used them on and I absolutely love them!

Feels good to play with paper again after taking some days off.

So here are a few photos from our "Outdoor Movie Night" over the weekend.   Dans brother ( under the screen in the photo below) owns the screen and projector.  He and Dan put together the temporary back for the screen to be attached to in our back yard.

People came in the late afternoon and we grilled, and sat on the deck , listened to music and hung out until it got dark enough to start the show.

Dan had even found a bunch of old drive in movie commercials online to show.

I got so caught up in thing I didn't take as many photos as I usually do. But we had a Counter Concession stand... grilled hot dogs, sloppy joes, big dill pickles, nachos, popcorn, root beer floats, ect...

oh.. and theater candy. lol

Good times!

Molly and Daisy loved all the attention. lol

We watched some music videos.... so of course "Tilly and the Wall".  Our niece Neely is the blonde in front.

Oh.. and we roasted marshmallows with Dans Fathers Day gift from Wes :)

We had a big metal wash tub full of ice for beer and soda.  Molly thought it was her personal ice tub. She loves ice when it's hot!

We ended up having a number of people just stay the night who live out of town, so that was great. Bodies sleeping here and there. A number of Wes's friends stayed.  I love that :)  It was like the good ol days. lol   I even dragged my behind out of bed and made bacon, eggs and hash browns for the troops in the morning. haha    I live for gatherings like this.  Seriously!   The more people with full bellies, blankets and pillows crashed around the house.. the happier I am :)

Awesome weekend!

Thanks for coming by!

June "Whatevers"

Hurray it's time for June "Whatevers"   If you not familiar with what Nathalie Kalbach, Catherine Scanlon and I have been doing each month using these old photos, read on to the bottom of this post and I'll give you all the info you need to play along. We'd love to have you join us!!

I decided to continue to work in my book and do another altered page.

"Beauties in a Boat"

Etta, Grace and Haddy, were raised going out in the boat with the father from the time they were small. They loved Saturday morning fishing trips with their father on the lake.  Now, living in the city, country life, was something they always missed. The memories of the smell of the pine trees and the feel of the cool breeze coming in off the lake always  in the back of their minds.  The girls always looked so forward to their trips back to the farm to visit their parents. And when they did they always went out in the boat with their father for a little Saturday morning fishing.  He always enjoyed this time so much and documented it with his traditional dated photo for the photo album.

Be sure to check out Nat and Cats pages and stories this month

New project using Crafty Secrets Garden Printables

I'm desperately trying to get back in the swing of things when it comes to creating and blogging but between catching up on things I've been putting to the side and pretty sunny days we've been having ... I'm not having the best luck. lol    The last couple of days I've been tidying up the garage now that the wedding things are gone and working on getting some plants potted for the deck and front porch.  It was such a long winter.. it just feels so good to finally get to be outside!!

Crafty Secrets has lots of great new garden printables  and stamps available now.  You can see all of them, with the links and gorgeous samples from the Design Team here on the Heartwarming Vintage blog.

I created this 8x10 wood d├ęcor piece by using one of the images on the new Digital  Garden Printables

I love finding wood plaques like this at the Dollar Store and then altering them.  The text paper in the background is from the new Digital Garden Papers.   I've altered the papers a bit with paint and machine stitching.
You can see below that I layered parts of the printed image by printing off another sheet the same size , cutting it out and adding it to the first sheet with Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L  Crafty Foam Tape.

Over the weekend we went to SD to my aunts 90th Birthday celebration.  There were three children in my moms family .. her, my Aunt Viv and my Uncle Al. This is Aunt Viv.  Isn't she a beauty?

Always feels good to be with our SD family and reminisce about all the times we've spend there over the years.  This place defiantly hold a special place in our hearts.
SD is where our parents lived, met and fell in love.  I wasn't born in SD .. but many of my older siblings were.

We drove by grandma house of course.. which always makes us a little sad, as so much had changed, and things aren't kept up the way they used to be :(    Last time Dan and I were up for a visit we drove out to Grandma and Grandpas old farm place. Although the house is no longer there, ..still so many memories just driving down that road.       My sis and I laughed as we drove by the lake where we used to go fishing with our Aunt and Uncle, thinking about how our Uncle would tell us we were tooo noisy and were scaring the fish away. lol   I'm sure we WERE noisy. hahah

We took our time driving home and enjoyed the day.

Drove thru many of the small towns on the 4 hour trip back, just looking at old buildings and enjoying the sites.

Love seeing these old theaters. This one was still in use.

    so cool!

    It was a great weekend!

I have been sharing so many photos lately with the wedding and all, that I haven't sharing many "Everyday" photos.  I don't want to get away from those, because I think they are really important.
Here are a few from the past week or so.

    Everyday Photo #1
Look  whoooooo has been hang out in the tree out back.
There were a number of them .. but very hard to see.  Dan spotted this one the other morning so I sent him out with my camera.

    Everyday Photo #2
I love lilacs and Peonies SOOO much! I had to pick some and bring them in to enjoy the other day.  Smells so good!

    Everyday Photo #3
Dan's brother had a  big screen projector, so we borrowed it  to have a outdoor movie night here Saturday night.  Problem is we wanted to sit on the deck to watch, and the screen needs to hang on a wall or something.........so Dan and his brother built this today to hold the screen.  Should be fun!  Friends coming over Saturday Night.  We hare having Hot dogs, popcorn and root beer floats.

I hope you are inspired to start taking more "Everyday" photos.   If you have an iphone....  you might want to check out  Groove book.   It's what I'm using to get my photos from my phone each month.   I'll be sharing more about it in the next post and show you what mine looks like.   Pretty fun

Okay friends... Have a GREAT day!!!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

    Wedding recap

Since I've taken you thru this journey with us over the pass months... I will now share the end result. The special day :)   I have so many photos I'd like to share..but for today I'll just share photos of the ceremony.  I'll share the reception in another post.   We had professional photos taken but these are just the ones that got snapped behind the scenes.  Either taken while I was hovering behind the photographer before the ceremony with my camera, when one of the many people who helped me out by grabbing my camera and snapping away when I was busy with other things ( because they knew it was important to me), or taken with my phone in one hand while I'm busy doing something with the other. lol anyway... not perfect.. but happy to have them to share until we get the others.

First of all... thank you for all the prayers for NO RAIN!  It worked.  It was a cool, over case day and we had to deal with a rain in the morning.. but SO thankful it stopped for the ceremony and reception!  Kate had gotten the girls monogrammed wellies to match their dresses, and with the cool weather and wet grasses, they decided to wear them instead of heels..... and it was really cute!
( you can click on the photo below to see it larger)  You might notice.. one of Kates attendants is Andrew.. a good friend of Jarad, Kate and Wes. (We called me a "Brides Dude")  he was such a great sport!

Below is the walk down to the wedding ceremony site.
    Signs along the way.
    As my boy seated me
Kates darling Nephew and nieces.  Ring Bearer and Flower Girls.

Kates Dad walking her down the isle.
( the canning jars with the wire, sand and tea lights I made are hanging on the Sheppard's hooks down the isle.

Nathaniel ( our nephew)  playing guitar

          Sealed with the kiss.

All those stamped muslin bags of lavender and birdseed.. being put to good use :)

I love this photo!  (Thank you who ever had my camera at this moment. I think Nathaniel)

My family.   Dan, I, Kate, Jarad and Weston

    I love these boys!!

    Isn't this photo sweet?

It was a beautiful ceremony.  Kates Aunt did a reading, Brent read a passage from the bible and spoke, and Nathaniel played guitar.
And from the beginning to the end... no rain!

So we headed down to the reception where some outdoor heaters had been set up, that really helped warm things up a bit.    The reception was so nice and a lot of fun.  The band was fantastic!    I'll share some photos soon, so you can see the S'mores banner,  frames, jars, and other things I showed you as I was working on them, once they were all in place.

If there is one thing that comes to mind after all this, which I know Jarad and Kate would say the same, it's what amazing family and friends we have.  Everyone just came together to make it happen... jumped in when they were needed, without thinking twice... and just did what needed to be done.  HUGE thanks to everyone!

    We are Blessed!!!

    Love Vic
