Birds and Blossoms

Hi everyone!
I don't know if you've heard, but Crafty Secrets "Birds and Blossoms" Creative Scraps are now a printable download.   ( you can see it below) and here is the link to the Crafty Vintage Girl Store where you can get it. here.
Here is a card using one of the bird images.
I was looking back in the file and thought I'd share a few projects I've created in the past, using the Birds and Blossoms Creative Scraps. Below is a wooden bird house I altered using them.
And all the birds on the branch on the image below is one of my very favorites.
Love me some chubby little birds :)

I can practically hear them singing now. lol

Sandy has some great samples from the Design Team up on the Heartwarming Vintage Blog also.

Everyday photos for this week... well....

We're so happy that all the fruit trees we planted last year are blooming!  We had so much trouble keeping the rabbits away from them when we first planted them. We had to replant some right away, but finally, they are all doing well. (fingers crossed)

We have had this little cabin since the boys were little, and have spend LOTS of time there. But since moving to the country about 14 years ago, we seem to be content with being here, plus, the mowing and yard work that come with an acreage keep us plenty busy.  Jarad and Kate now have their own cabin just a ways down the road from this one so Wes has been pretty much taking care of cabin upkeep, mowing ect, and he's there most every day. We were out there helping a bit this week, as he added a new little deck and did some painting. He had a spot tilled so Dan and I could plant a garden.  Now that I'm not traveling and teaching so much, I looking forward to having a garden and canning again like I used to :)

Let me explain the photo below before you think I'm off the deep end completely and dressing my dog on a daily basis. lol      Daisy  dog  had to have stitches.  I had her outside and she chased a rabbit into the trees. I'm not sure what she got cut on? Maybe old barbed wire, since this was an old farmstead. We've tried to get is all ,but some has been there so long it's actually grown into trees. Anyway....she probably would not have any part of wearing a cone , but for some reason a shirt doesn't bother her at all.    So for the past 10 days, she has been wearing a shirt.
Now, you can say my husband IS "off the deep end" because he is the one who made me stop and wait to take the picture until he put her treat "a carrot" in her shirt pocket.
For some reason he thought  that was really funny.     okkkkkayy

I hope your taking "everyday photos" with me :)

Thanks for stopping by!

Hugs, Vic

"It's Your Day" Card and an Easter recap

You know me, I always love sharing photos from family get togethers, and Easter is no exception, but first a card I created for a friend.   My friend Julie is retiring from teaching this year after 30 some years. I know she is going to be very missed! She is the most amazing teacher I have ever know. She truly wants what's best for ever child, and does whatever she can to help each child and their family. Working with kids with special needs for all these years, you can only imagine what a special person she is anyway, but she is just extra special!   I almost have to laugh when she says she's retiring. Yes.. from this job, but I know it's only the beginning of other things for her.  Put it this way, I don't see her sitting at home doing cross word puzzles. lol   She always finds a way to give back and to help others.  Here's to you my friend!

Now, time to drown you in Easter photos. ha ha    Most of you who have been following my blog know I have a big family.  We continue to get together with our kids and grandkids, so at this point we rent a place. We have been renting the same place for some time now here in town and it seems to work quite well.
With so many of us, it's pretty hard to have a sit down dinner where we pass the food, especially when you have as much food as we do. lol  So although we still as have a blessing together and sit and eat all in one big long table ( many tables put together), we fill our plates an then sit.

Like I said.... always LOTS of good food!

Oh, and since it's "paper craft" oriented  I have to share.  If you have insomnia the night before a get together like I did, you can always make some cupcake toppers. :)
After eating we always have a egg hunt.  I'm glad I snapped this photo of my brothers, since they always seem to dodge my camera. I guess they were watching the Easter Bunny hide eggs. ( naughty naughty).      Ray and Dan

And the hunt begins.  Can you believe how Griffin has gown?   He turned 9 this past week!   Ryker was having fun finding eggs.

This is Jerri's little girl, Lexi. What a doll!

And Miss Haley, filling her basket. (Griffins little sis)

And I think Zack thought this egg hunt thing was pretty fun. He was good at it :)

The photo below... well, not sure I have an explanation for it, but it makes me laugh.  Every time someone would come in from outside they would say, "what are those guys gathered around the trash cans for?"  Finally I went out to see.  Weird!   I asked Wes later ..."Hey where were you guys doing out there".... being the smarty pants that he is , he says, " Talk'n trash".  hahahahah      Classy

Anyway, it was a wonderful day with family that we all enjoyed. Thanks for letting me share a bit of it with you. I hope you had a fantastic day also.

Off to Julies retirement party!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Spring/Easter Peat Moss baskets

I seem to have an obsession of sorts with making little baskets using  peat moss cups :) I've been doing different variations of them for years now.  The first one I ever received using peat moss cups was made by my friend Liz, it was so sweet and simple with a handle made from a twig from a Bridal View Bush. I fell in love with it.
This first set below, are the ones I just did this week.    They could be used for May Day basket also... or just any fun little Spring gift.  I think they would be super cute with an actual starter plant in them.

For the Easter baskets below I used Crafty Secrets images from Easter Creative Scraps
The tissue on the inside is old sewing patterns. Crepe and lace hot glued around the outside.
These were done with .
Birds and Blossoms Creative Scraps and Digital stamp from Crafty Secrets Heartwarming Vintage.  I painted these peat moss cups with acrylic paint... not completely covering them.

The baskets below, I did for a post on the Fancy Pants Designs Blog back in 2012. There is a tutorial if you are interested  Fancy This : Easter Baskets

Just another version with paper flowers .  If you want to make handles like these you can use thin new branches from outside if they are bendable, or you can use pieces from a small grapevine wreath, like I did.

For this one I cut a paper border for the handle.  You can see the entire Easter post here on the Vintage Street Market Blog

These pots I misted, and added glitter to the top edge. Natural look with moss, pain wood eggs and feathers.

You could also use these with name place cards at the Easter table.  I'm using mine this year for a little gift for the moms that do all the cooking to make Easter dinner together happen.  With my big family, that's quite a few.   So looking forward to seeing family. Seems like it's been a long time since we were together at Thanksgiving. Should be about 35 of us.  Those kids grow so fast.  ( brace yourself... photo's coming :)
Wishing all of you a Happy Easter!

Whatevers TWO April 2014

It's that time! APRIL Whatevers Day! We have a fun photo for you to play with this month.  Hope you can join in.  If your not familiar with "Whatevers" You can read more about it here.  But basically my friends...Nat, Cat, Cuchy,  Martha  and I have committed to a full year of bringing new life to  forgotten photos. Each month we create a page and give it a story using that months photo. We share the photo with you in hopes that you will play along and join in the fun.
There is also more info at the bottom of this post.
Here are the links to the other girls blogs so you can see their creations this month.

Carmen Sanchez

And here is mine.  I used one of Catherine's new Stencils for my basic background.  I just played with it , using Glimmer Mist, moving it a bit and spraying it again. I used brushes and GM to do the rest of the painting. Then when it was a dry, a little outlining and doodling with a fine tip marker.  You can find links to all Catherine's new products on her blog!

I love this photo, and simply could not resist using this saying .

My story:
Albert was a chipper fellow. Always a smile, although many wondered why. Etta it seemed to others, was not that easy to please. But good old Albert always did his best.  He loved his Ettaboo and enjoyed spending his days trying to make her happy.

We would love to have you play along!
 Here is how it works

Nat, Cat, Cuchy (Carmen), Martha and I and I have made a one-year commitment to each other and picked twelve photos with Whatevers whom we will give a story.
  • Every month – if possible always on the 15th –  each of us will do a post with an individual story that goes along for us with the same photo.
  • If you want you can play along and we will have the photo for you to download and show us your version of The Whatevers. The photo will be posted at the end of our blog posts- not on Facebook!
  • There is no rules to the story itself- it can be funny, sad, uplifting, breathtaking- WHATEVER
  • There is no rules on the length or the form of the story- it can be a short sentence, an essay, a poem or a soap opera – WHATEVER
  • There is no rules on the art form you choose – it can be a scrapbook layout, an altered art project, an art journal page – WHATEVER
  • Here is a rule though: if you take the photo you have to link back to us and show us your story.
  • These pictures are from our personal stash and are for personal use for you only! If you want to use them for a publication whether a book or magazine in print or digital form please ask for permission!
  • If you want to participate we’ll have a linky list for each Whatever Post.
  • You can also join our The Whatevers -Facebook Page

Dressing it up for Easter

I know, I know, can you believe Easter is next weekend?  Well, I have a couple of projects to share that are quick and easy, if your needing some things to dress up your table or décor. Another great thing about being about to purchase a download... no waiting for it to come in the mail :)
First of all I did these pretty little frames using the Crafty Secrets Floral Victorian EggsThere is also these Adorable Vintage Eggs and Pretty Vintage Easter Eggs to choose from if you like.

The download looks like this. This is the Floral Victorian that I used.

These cute frames were $1.99 at Michaels. They are from Recollection's.

The egg prints worked perfectly for the frames. After adding them, I just attached ribbon to hang them from.

Here is another simple bit of décor for the Easter dessert table.   I made these to stick in the cake I plan to bring.  You could also make them smaller and use them in individual desserts.
I used the Spring Bunnies Digital stamp set for these.  I just printed them on white cardstock and colored them with watercolor pencils. I cut them out and added them to the paper doilies with Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L Foam Squares.

You cant see it here very well, but I did add glitter to the bows on the bunnies and to the design and bow on the egg.

Oh... and while I'm busy crafting.......

Thanks for stopping by!
See you Tuesday for April "Whatevers"

Cathering Scanlon Designs blog hop

I'm excited to be asked to be apart of my ever so talented and sweet friend Catherine Scanlon's very first Blog Hop using her new stamps from Art Gone Wild.
Cat has been a friend of mine for many years. It's been so fun to watch her grow as an artist and achieve so many of her goals. I just couldn't be more happy for her and all her successes. She is crazy talented!   If you are not already a follower of her blog, you are missing out, because this girl INSPIRES!   Cat's blog.. Art from the Heart by Catherine Scanlon
I'll share with you my project and then below that you will find the links to Cat's blog and all the others participating in the blog hop so that you can be sure to see what everyone has created with Cats Stamps.    By the way, Cat is also hosting a giveaway on her blog :)
For my project I used Cat's  Grid stencil with the Flower Bits Stamp.  I masked off and stamped inside the different sections and then used water colors to color it.  I left a large area open for a quote then I wrote a favorite quote in that space.
For information on how to order You can also see the Summer, 2013 release here , and contact Art Gone Wild here for wholesale pricing. (EMAIL: sales@royalacme.com) To see a list of stores (on-line and in person) that carry my stamps you can go to Catherine's blog and look at this link:  Places to Buy
I really loved painting this. It was fun and relaxing.

Below are the links to check out Cat and the other girls projects .. so be sure to check them out!

Dimensional hanging paper Easter eggs/ Crafty Secrets April Linky Party

Today is Crafty Secrets April Linky Party and Design Team Challenge day. ( the first Monday of each month).    For my project today I thought I'd show you how easy it is to use the Printable Easter Egg Download to make these fun dimensional hanging ornaments.   They are easy!  I'll show you how below.
I used one set ..but you can see them all here.

Once you purchase the download, and open it on your computer, this is what the sheet will look like.  Print it off on a piece of white card stock, then flip your paper over and print again on the back side.  The eggs will match up perfectly, so they are easy to cut out.

Once you've cut them out, fold them in half down the middle. This will just be a good guide for where to stitch.  When you take two like images like shown below and sandwich them together , the two images on the inside will match up as well.
You can use white or any light colored thread to stitch them together down the middle but there is also clear thread, which is what I used.

You just stitch down the middle.
Then open it up, and the other images will match up.

Here is a couple more examples.   Once you have them put together.. you can embellish till your little hearts content :)   I started to just add glitter to the edges , but them decided if I used a fine enough glitter, I could do the entire egg, so that's what I did.  Added ribbon, flowers, a little crystal and line to hang it from.

I did these full size , but of course you could size and print them whatever size/sizes you need and as many as you want.  Again.. the glory of digital downloads.

Like I said... fun and easy. Hope you give them a try.
Now... be sure to pop over and see what the other DT ladies have created for today.
And remember we'd love to have you play along in our Linky Party.  You can read about it here on the Heartwarming Vintage Blog.
