Painted Canvas

Sometimes it's just good to step out of your comfort zone a  bit and just enjoy the process.  I did that one day last week when I decided to just paint. I just pulled out a canvas and started, with nothing in particular in mind.
I remember a couple of years ago deciding I was going to to step down from some of the Design Teams I was on and just enjoy some time creating just for fun , without guidelines and deadlines.  Well, instead I found myself just creating less :(  It's  good to just take time for "life", don't get me wrong. I was spending way too much time in my studio). But.... I miss pushing my creative limits at times. The other day I  decided to paint. Not for anyone, just because. Painting is not something I'm super comfortable with for the most part. But I was surprised how much a enjoyed it when I didn't worry so much about what the end result was going to be.
So, when I'm done, It's nothing super special and I am not happy with the way the writing turned out at all , but I'm going to be OK with it. I wasn't going to post it but I decided it's something worth talking about. If you love to create but it's always for someone, for a Design Team requirement, or to replicate something you were inspired by on Pinterest.....  Try using your next free craft/art time for YOU.  For no other reason, except for the fact you just enjoy it.  Paint, cut, draw, or even just doodle.  Go into it with the idea that you don't even have to show anyone.  There really is something to be  said for just enjoying the process... without any expectations.

I had to tell myself, it's okay not to be the best at it.  It's okay that lots of people are WAY better at it.  It's okay, just enjoy it. I really did enjoy it. I just put on some music and played with paint.  It was good :)

So. .... that was that one relaxing day. lol Now full speed ahead. haha   There has been so much going on. I had to  pick and choose photos as not to drown you in them.

I always have to share about these sweet boys when they stop over for a visit.  Their mom had a training day at work before school starts so they came over to play. ( you know me, I hate to play alone. :)
We did a couple of crafty things I had picked up at Hobby Lobby especially  for the next time they came over
Emmett is working on coloring his scare crow after finishing his Tee Pee.

Wyatt so good at  coloring and drawing.

Emmett, well., he's all about getting his projects done quick and playing in the buttons. ( a boy after my own heart).

Last weekend Dan and I went to SD for my Aunt Donna's 90th Birthday celebration. Her husband, Uncle Al ( my moms  brother) , had his 90th celebration last year.  And the year before that was my Aunt Viv's ( my moms sister).  They are the last of my family in SD.  Aunt Viv was at the party also of course so we got to see her.
She is going well, and has moved to an assisted living since her visit here. She loves it!

My parents were both from SD and met and married there, and started their family.  Only my next oldest brother and I were born here in NE after they moved down here. SD hold so many memories for my siblings and I ( and my kids) of great family times.  My Grandparents farmed there until they retired and moved to town. After Grandpa passed, Grandma lived in that cute little house for many years.
It's seems slower paced there. (Populations under 300)  A little more untouched by the craziness of the world these days somehow.  Maybe I just want to believe that , but it's just feels so comfortable there.

My Aunt Donna an Uncle Al are just amazing people. They farmed all their lives and still live out on their farm. They are hard working people with hearts of gold.  My Aunt Donna has had lots of medical problems these past years, but they still just keep going.    You can tell by my Uncle Al , that he's quite a character.
I love these people.

It's about 4 hours from here. We enjoy the drive up and back. It was a gorgeous day.

Jarad and Kate drove up for the Birthday celebration also, although they headed there the day before us. It was so nice to have them be there.

Wes and Amy weren't able to make it because they are in Colorado camping.  They love adventure ( and to make me worry :) so they are on the motorcycle.

Actually they rode out with other friends who took their motorcycles and they were meeting up with other friends out there.   They have been keeping us posted, and it sounds like they are having a great time!

This is a photo from a concert they went to at Red Rocks they other night.

Before they left Wes designed a T shirt logo, and I helped him print them off and iron them on, so they would all have one.  They actually looked amazing! He did a great job on the design.

Last night I went to Lincoln to see my great niece Amber and her boys before they headed back to AZ. They are the most adorable "littles"! We always wish out far away family lived closer, but enjoy every minute of their visits.

Whew! Boy, when I don't blog as often I sure have a lot I feel the need to share. lol
I figure those who come here for craft/art  inspiration will catch that at the top of the post and carry on.  You die hards who have been coming here for so long that you know my entire family will read to the end. lol

If you got this far.... I LOVE YOU!

Altered clock "Make a Big Splash" Fancy Pants Designs

He everyone! I'm sharing a "don't toss that broken clock" project.   Of course I love altering vintage clocks but ( but I don't really like to take them apart because they are so cool).  This clock is not old, but there is no way I could just toss it.  I think any clock getting re-loved is great! I used the Fancy Pants "Down by the Sea Shore" Collection with this photo of my sweet little nephew, Tennessee.   I wish you could see this  one better :( The plastic on the front is actually curved, so it's kind of like a bubble.  I wouldn't have had to put the front cover back on. but it was so cool, that I really wanted to.  The problem with that is that it makes it really hard to get a good photo of, without some glare.

The fun part of that is that I could make it look dimensional by adding some of the cute rubons from this collection to the photo and to the plastic cover over the front.
It's hard to see , but the red crab is on the inside and the yellow one is on the plastic on the outside.

and the same here with the fish.  You can actually see the shadows of some of the fish on the photo.

This is such a darling collection, and so fun to use.  Since a live far away from the ocean.. any way you look at it, I don't have tons of ocean photos to scrap, so I couldn't wait to use some of the photos from Tennessees visit to the Ocean.  I love getting photos of this little guy.  I don't want to  miss all these fun little stages of his first year.  His mommy is so good about texting   photos.  I'm so thankful!

I still  wanted to share a couple of photos from the movie night we had with Wyatt and Emmett last week. I'm pretty sure they had fun.
Pizza first.

popcorn later.

As hot as it was turning the day, it got chilly later.  Dan brought out blankets for the boys. They snuggled right in with their popcorn. It was a fun time.

Wes and Amy's garden has really been producing.  And I'm very lucky they share with us.

I have loved having all these fresh veggies to cook with .   Jarad and Kate have a garden also.  I'm so happy the kids all  appreciate having gardens.  I'm sure they are thrilled to be reaping the benefits of the work they put into them.  It's not summer without garden bounty to enjoy.

Speaking of Summer.  I can barely stand the idea of Summer drawing to an end. (insert sad face).
I love Fall, just not what comes after as much as I used to.
One of the things that is hard for me, is wearing "real" shoes again. ( insert REALLY sad face).  I would be barefoot or in sandals or flip flops all the time if I had my way.   Living in NE, that is a problem Oct thru March! . Before long Fall will be here and I'll have to resign to the fact I I need to actually wear SHOES.
I can only tell you...... this... is a pretty big deal to me. lol   My feet rebel. lol  What can I say.. they need to be free. lol
The other day I saw an online add for these comfy looking shoes.  I ordered them thinking , hey they're cute and as close to "real shoes" as I want to think about right now. They are SO comfy!
I could be in trouble because they're are so many super cute, reasonably priced shoes at NEWchic where I ordered these.
When I find something I like I like to share. I dont know about all the shoes at NEW Chic ( except that many are super cute). but these are a dream.

Busy day ahead.  Amy's (Wes's girlfriend) is here visiting from CA so she is coming her for dinner and movie night tomorrow.  Friday Amy got tickets to take her mom and I to the Wine and Balloon Festival.

Saturday we are headed to SD to an Aunts 90th Birthday.  Full speed ahead.
I hope your week is going well, and continues to be a good one.

Thank you so much for coming by.  I'll be back soon.

"Let the sunshine in" card

Happy August!  I'm still trying to figure out where July went. What?  The older I get the more I seem to dislike Winter, so although I love Fall , I'm in NO hurry for winter.  I've lived in Nebraska all my life, so you'd think I get used to cold snowy winters.  Actually it's not the snow I dislike, I love pretty, snowy days. And the cold.. we'll I don't love it but, mostly it's when there is too many dark dreary days that I really dislike Winter.  I need sunshine!
Well, the card I'm sharing today is bright and cheery. It's made with the " Life is Beautiful " Collection from Fancy Pants Designs.  You can see my post here on the Fancy Pants Designs Blog.

What else has been going on? Well, the boys spend the night here last Friday night. We invited them over for a movie night.  I have photos of that to share, but I didn't want to drown you in more photos than I already am, so I'll share those in another post.

Earlier in the evening before pizza an movie time, the kids and I made up these treat bags to take to the police officers to show our  appreciation for all they do.  It really broke my heart the other day when something came on the news showing the police in a negative light.  Wyatt talked a bit about it and I was so surprised at how aware he was about the this subject.  Kids pick up so much more from background TV and adult conversations than we realize. It made me really sad that the kids even have to hear these scary things.  I know they have great parents and are being brought up well.  But I thought  why not do a fun project with them  to show them they can count on the offices here.   I found this idea floating around on FB and decided we would put some bags together.

The kids thought it was fun.  The kids can really be a part of things, counting out the candies, and putting them in the bags.  Depending on how old they are, they could even cut out and glue the saying to the front of the bag.    I will share the one I typed out myself at the bottom of this post.  I left it high res, so it's printable. Please feel free to use the one I typed up if you'd like to make these with your kids or grandkids.

Of course, we had to visit out favorite officer first. lol  We went to Wes's station.  The kids know Wes well   so it was fun for them to see him at work.

Here are a couple of the other offices with their bags.  They had posted this on the police's Facebook wall, thanking the boys for bringing the treats and stopping by.  I snagged it there :)

Here we are sharing our bags at another police station.

I know Emmett would be impressed, but with Wyatt being a bit older, I wasn't sure if he'd be as entertained.

ummm.... as you can see, he liked it also.

Wes showed them all  around and even took us over to the fire department to have them show us around there. The boys loved sitting in the fire trucks, seeing the water rescue boats, and HONKING the big horns. lol

I think the boys enjoyed it and it was a good experience for all of us.

Here is the printable if you want to use it.

Oh, before closing I'll share what I worked on this week.  Kate ,our daughter in law is a high school teacher, and she is getting her classroom ready for the school year.  She asked if I'd be willing to help her out with a couple of things. ( canvases with sayings ect).

She recovered this old chair I gave her and .... now.....
ummmm I want it back now lol
It turned out so great!

She also  recovered these chairs she found a the "Home store" ( a kind of thrift store we have in Fremont).

She's putting together a little reading area in her classroom.  (English teacher :)
I love seeing old things getting new life!!!
I little fabric, a little paint.. and you have fun new things.

She said she's still working on it when she sent me the photos, but it's looking awesome.

As for me, I'm still working on going thru things and purging.  I've been on this kick for a couple of years now.  It's still hard for me to part with things at times. I have to tell myself I can really like something without having to HAVE it. Especially  hard for me to refrain from picking up more things when I'm at a thrift store or sale. ( REALLY hard to pass up good deals) lol Sometimes I still cant.. but I'm so much better about it than I used to be.  I like the feeling of not having so much  STUFF. (trust me I still have plenty) .  Luckily I also love organization, so I do pretty good with concentrating all the crap I have so it's not out of control. lol
It's a work in progress.
I continue to simplify!

Thanks as always for taking time to stop by.

I hope your week is going well.
